    69 GS Fireglow Paint

This weekend had a minor set back, after sanding with the long board, the rear quarters showed a lot of low spots, had to add a little body filler, sanding and going to prime it again before sanding again. hopefully by the weekend will have paint of the quarters.

The rear quarters, were sprayed, gel coated, and blocked, the hood and front fenders were done today, have to sand them with long board, and rest of the car will be ready for paint.

Now if the rest of the car comes out like the roof, it will be great. :TU:

Minor set back today, stand by the back of the car and the quarters didn't look right, decided to test fit the bumper and glad we did so, the driver's side which had some work had to be reshaped so the bumper would be even all around. Glad it was seen prior to paint.

69 GS Fireglow paint - FINISHED

The rest of the car has been painted. I'm very happy with the color and glad I decide to stay with the original color. Thank you all for your input in the final decision. Now it's a matter of putting the final touches to it.

    The code is 60586
The car was in primer 3 times and sanded before we use a brown sealer, three coats of paint and three coats of clear. Wet sanding has been going on for the last few days, a section at a time.

Almost finished with the wet sanding, the last fender will be done tonight. Tomorrow, we will re-do the areas of the chassis that have over spray and start painting them black, inner fenders, exhaust system, radiator support.

    Hey guys,

This had been bugging me so I went out and checked my cowl tag, I have been decoding it wrong as wel, mine is Fireglow with a black convertible top (now white)! Mine appears to be a very low body number too, 000090. How many did convertibles did we decide were made with this paint color?

From what I understand, I think the number was 23, 20 were built at Flint and 3 only at Fremont. The question now is "Where was your car built?" In either case, your car is a low production number.

Sounds like I got all excited and looked at the wrong line. I was quoting the "SCO' line, not the "Q" line, sorry guys! I will delete the post with the wrong info!

I see in the daily reports they are saying there were cars painted Fireglow at plants other than Freemont and Flint. But in the flyer I posted on the first page here it says it's only avalible from those 2 plants.

    I wonder why the discrepancy?

Where on the Daily reports does it show paint code "Q" at other plants?

    Flint
    GS400 coupes = 102
    GS400 Conv = 20
    GS350 = 129

    Wilmington
Zero shown with paint code Q

    Leeds
Zero shown with paint code Q

    Fremont
    GS400 Coupe = 25
    GS400 Conv = 3
    GS350 = 27

    Canada
Zero shown with paint code Q.

I was going by what Chris posted about cars with a "-" (dash) for the code. But I now realize they could be any color. Not just Fireglow. :TU:

Mine must be one of the 3 GS400's from Freemont.

    In 1969 the Q code was Fireglow Orange ( - )
in 1970 Q code (A9) was Saturn Yellow GSX
in 1971 & 72 Q code was Cortez Gold GS

My car was a ( - B ), Chris also was a ( - B ) even thou his is a convertible, if the car was a ( - - ) meant that the roof was also Fireglow Orange. Both of us failed to see the dash in front of the letter "B", I'm glad that it was pointed out by a friend, decided to go with the original color, was getting ready to paint it something else (PPG COPPERHEAD) from Truckstv.com

Actually Dave, mine would be one of three convertibles from Freemont, yours would be 1 of 25 coupes. :beer

That would make this 2 of the 28!

    1 of 3 convertibles
    1 of 25 coupes 400
    1 of 27 coupes 350

That's great, now if only we can get all 3 cars in the same place, for a few photos :beer really be nice. :TU:

    Update :bglasses:

Today spend the day fixing, cleaning and polishing the trim and chrome for the GS. After bringing the pieces back to almost perfect condition, started to put them back on the car. Wheel wells, trunk, hood, front and rear windows, the trim for the vinyl top. Took the rear 350 marker lights and disassembled them, cleaned the lens, painted the back of the red 350 lens, now the 350 jumps out at you. In all the excitement, forgot to take pictures, :Dou: will take some tomorrow before I start with remainer of the parts that need to be installed. :beer
