    OK,
Nick has been busy again. These are pics that were taken over a few days. This is of the engine getting painted and assembled.

Here are some pics of the engine, headers, scatter shield, and trans between the frame rails.

Boy that engine just pops when going from the pic of it all red to the one with all the stuff bolted back on!

When the engine is in the car I have to ask though. Is there supposed to be so much lead on those heater hoses?

Moving along, love the Thread, very exciting..............What has always gets me is why anyone way back then would think white is the color for headers...lol.......Its very period for the 60's and all I can think of was that back then headers weren't common place and people wanted them to be noticed, but they sure are ugly once used, get dirty and crappy within hours.

Those heater hoses get attached to the passenger side inner fender by the clip that is on them. I think Nick put them on full length to get everything on the motor, and once the front end is installed will cut them to length. Either that or he measured the lengths off his 69 car and that's how long they are supposed to be. I guess we will find out.

The Headers on the Motion GSX were red, which I believe was how they came out of the box when new, but when Jimmy found the car it had an original set of headers and they were painted white without a lick of red paint.............so he had a set powder coated in white and that's what went back in. Looking at the pics it seems like there was almost enough room to get those headers in. I am used to seeing stock manifolds on my cars. I sure would not like to have been the guy that figured out how to make them.

You are starting to see some of the "specialty" parts that will be going under the hood now.

I expect it will be to a large extent, this one is costing me MONEY. However you cannot restore a car today to this level and not have it cost money. Regardless, it needed to be done and I expect to drive it some.

I don't think I will be able to leave this car just sit. If the X-Camino, with basically a stock Stage 1 auto engine can bring a smile to my face after a half hour drive, then what will this one do with a larger horsepower motor and a 4-speed???

I guess the amount of driving I do will depend on how much race gas I have.:D:D:D

I am just hoping that when it's all said and done I can afford to keep it.

It will more than likely have a cooling problem with that fan blade given it will be making more HP which produces MORE heat.

That fan blade may or may not make it on the finished project. It came with the car so we put it on for the pics.

A couple more things are done. The shifter and linkage are now on the trans and the period correct green striped/lettered spark plugs will be going on soon.

Those plugs are probably expired by now, but don't throw them out, send them to me.

Jimmy bought them and they came with the car. I don't know when he got them but laughed at the $12.00 price when I first saw them.

I don't think that would be the current price today.

should have a 3 dot brake check valve, the one you have is later and is a service piece

Duane, are you sure those are the right plugs? I didn't look them up, but 45's seem hot. I know most GM musclecars of that time were 44's. The TS=Tapered Seat, the X=extended gap, typically used on later emission cars or cars with electronic ignition that needed a wider gap. I know the Motion cars typically used the Phase III ignition, which probably required a larger gap. I forget what you said about the type of distributor you are using. Obviously, the R45TSX's may have been used by Motion. I suppose Jimmy knows or knew about the plugs having bought them. 'Course, they will definitely work, and you probably already know all this. Just thought I'd mention this stuff because I'm curious!

    Frank,
I knew someone would question the temp of the plugs. We are putting the Phase III electronic ignition on the car with the set-up going into an original 69 400 distributor body, and probably the correct Mallory coil as well, as we have an NOS one and it was used by "Motion" on many vehicles.

Jimmy most likely checked everything out, but I will find out for sure.

We will be putting them in for now, for some upcoming pics, but most likely I will be running new plugs, and saving these for the shows. Just like I will be running an open filament air cleaner and keeping the Fly-Eye for the shows.

I have been told by several sources to not run the Fly-Eye as the foam element catches fire if it backfires. The last thing I need is to have anything happen to this car.

PS. I like your sign on picture.

Well, since this engine is far from stock, there is no reason to use the stock spark plugs. You are probably better off with the slightly hotter plugs anyway. The TSX plugs are designed to be gapped at .060 though. Can your ignition fire that gap at the higher compression? That is the question.

Duane. Great build man. " Great " being an understatement for sure thou. Hey, I had a question. I have the same issue on my roof as this car had. You showed the shop soaking it with Acid to get down in all the pin holes. Can I get more detail on this process from start to finish? Thanks. Cant wait to see this Motion......in Motion again .

Nick would have to answer that one. I don't know exactly what he used to clean off the roof.

I will see if I can get him to post the info here.
