Yeah well I would bet Gene's rear bumper is also NOS. Now you can sweat more, like the pilot did in the movie Airplane. I always loved that scene. Duane
I had one of Rusty's 71 N25 rear bumpers on a 71 GSX look-a-like that I used as an everyday driver for a couple of years. Looked great. Just talked to Eric Gardner and he is going to make the rear tailpipes with the correct hangers, etc. for the car. So the exhaust should look just like it did in the day, with the MT long tube headers, 2 short intermediate pipes, NOS "soup can" Thrush mufflers, and the original style tailpipes. Duane
Just don't expect it to go "fast" for a while. I am not going to chance anything happening to it with some irreplaceable "borrowed" parts on the front end. Duane
I will be happy just seeing it and hearing it run! And maybe getting a picture of my '68 parked beside it...
Nice .. they Refused to make me tailpipes . They don’t “ sell parts just full systems “. Should sound / look great . DL
Nick, Wow I had minor fitment issues with the one I had . That front was way off. I have another to try now that I fitted and sent out for a re-chrome. The nose is usually the problem but this one looks like the end was pulled or tweaked.
Right, Gardner won't sell just tailpipes. I wanted to buy tailpipes for my 67. My other 2 cars have Gardner exhaust, but I just can't justify doing the 67 because it's already a Sr. If you buy a system from them, and if a piece got damaged 2 years later, they would sell you that piece. My guess is because you car is "special" they agreed to do it. Or, maybe because you said you would plug them in an article, or at a major venue. Maybe it's like "pro bono" work for them, not that it's being done free, but Eric figures it's good will towards the Buick community. I assume they either know or figure a mag will pick the car up. It's looking good Duane!
Don't start beating up on Eric, he is doing me a favor. We were going to use TA's 2 1/2" tailpipes but they are on back order and we have no idea when they will be back in stock. The only reason he even did this is because the car has non factory mufflers as well, so other then a small custom bent piece from the muffler to the headers there are no other pipes. What Gardner Exhaust worries about is selling a partial kit, and having issues between their parts and how it fits with whatever else is under the car. For a regular car with headers you can buy one of their systems, cut the front pipes and make everything fit. I don't have any original style pipes except the tailpipes, and my mufflers are not stock, so other then the tailpipes/hangers there was nothing I could use. For our cars, they make the best stock exhaust on the planet, hands down, not a question. We are trying to make an accurate restoration of an historical car and Eric was kind enough to help me. I don't remember if we talked about it but yes, we are trying to get the car done so I can schedule it for a photo shoot, and I am quickly running out of time to get that done. Duane
