I have a 69 skylark conv. The rear end was taken apart and sent to be rebuilt. They cant do it, it comes back in peiceses. Fast forward 15 years, the new mecanic can't get it back together. He said the there is no way that the ring and pinion are for that rear end. 8.25, housing cast # L 18 1385724 4-N. ring gear #2 GM 1235126 13 40 7 83. Pinion # 1384197 L 16-41 GM, AX housing D 31 1 LK, ax RG 40-PG/6 27 spine count. This thing has been a pain. Help D Tilden
Well if it was togehter and ran 15 years ago it should go back together...BUT 15 years and 2 companies you I am sure have received the WRONG PARTS back. I can see you have a 13 - 40 (ring gear #2 GM 1235126 13 40 7 83) This is the wrong year already...1983(83) ring July (7) 13 40 is 3.08 Most likely a 3.08 8.5 corp. ring gear NEXT the pinion ( Pinion # 1384197 L 16-41 GM) 16 - 41 is 2.56 pinion Do not know the year as it is not listed BUT I am sure if you showed a picture of the pinion I can ID it for you. You did state the pinion had 27 spline and that the rear was LK code which is 2.56 SO I would say the pinion is original and the ring is wrong and the one shop did not give you back your correct ratio ring for the rear. Housing is correct - 1968-1970 8.2 Buick. Jim I can tell you if you did want it put together We can do it and we can supply a good used ring and pinion and EVEN make the rear posi if you want. JIm
Thank you very much Monzaz, I would be very intrested in having you do the rebuild. How much will it cost with posi. D Tilden
