Hi everyone! New to the board, wanted to share one of my rides. 69 Skylark Custom with 14700 original miles. Handed down to me a few years ago by my dad.
Welcome aboard, neighbor!!! Nice to see such a nice original Skylark right in my backyard. Any more pics?
Thanks Tim, yes I do have more, once I locate the CD with them on I will get them uploaded on here!!! I see we are niehbors here. Lol lol
My my dad purchased it off his friend in 2000, who is a car dealer in Brownsville, Pa. The original owner purchased the car brand new in 1969 and was more his play car than daily driver. The original owner finally met the woman of his dream and got married. With his new wife he also got 4 step children and being a bachelor all his life he didn't have a "family" vehicle he could get everyone into. He decided to take the buick and trade it in on a mini van for his new family. The car dealer owner called my dad and the rest was history. When my dad purchased it, there was a little over 13k miles on the car. My dad kept it in his garage and just took it out from time to time on little trips. Being the car nut I always have been I tried to get my father to show it in some local shows or car cruises. He always said he never had time so I would take it for a couple cruises a year for him. In 2008 my dad was diagnosed with esophagus cancer. That Easter, my dad handed me the keys and passed the car down. I told him I was going to tune it up, give it a good cleaning and we were going to take it to its first car show together. 2 days after his 64 birthday we showed the car at a Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile show at Budd Baer Buick Dealer in Washington Pa. That car took first place in its class and I wanted him to go get the trophy, he couldn't because he was so choked up as was I. That fall he had his surgery and like the car, he is a survivor! He is alive and kicking today but still can't get him to go with me to car shows, but the look on his face when I pull into his driveway with it is priceless!!!!!
Welcome, - Nice Original car and local too. I am about 50 minutes from you in the Leechburg area but know Washington well, I worked in Canonsburg for about 8 years. Hope to see you at some local shows.. Terry
Welcome! I really like the car!!! Post up some more pics! If you have trouble PM me and I can post them for you...
Hey, nice story. I live in Oakdale, out by the airport. My Dad also passed my 70 vert down to me. It was my grandmothers car since it was new. He has a 67 GS400 and we go to shows together. Maybe we can meet up when the weather breaks. Welcome.
Were you at the Budd Baer car show this year? If so, I didn't see you. Me and 3 other friends had our turbo Regals there, and I thought we were the only Buicks that showed up besides John Schmidt in his Stage 1 Convertible. Great story, by the way. My cornet gold 70 GS was sold new at Beatty Buick (now Budd Baer). Funny thing is, my dad was a salesperson there from 1969-1991 and I'm pretty sure he special ordered my GS for a doctor here in town. Hope to see you out next year.
No I wasn't there this year, wife scheduled vacation that weekend lol lol. I am looking hopefully yo be there in 15!!!!
