Does anyone know the correct colors for a 70 GS Grill? I'm hoping to get the right stuff or close in spray cans. Anyone?

    TIA

Argent silver and charcoal gray for the grill areas I think. Flat black also used. Try eastwood whell paints. They are all lacquer and dry quick which is good on plastic. Worked good on my 71. I think detail gray they sell is a bit closer than the Charcoal gray wheel paint they sell however. Probably may other opinions here. Best to stick with one manufacturer or risk lift and misery.

I have an NOS GM grill that is dark charcoal and argent(mesh is argent, dk charcoal around and between the mesh). I also have a grill that came with a project car (unknown history and one of the previous owners started to paint it but didn't finish), that grill appears to be argent, the mesh is medium charcoal, and dark charcoal around and between the mesh..I also have another NOS grill that is all argent. I understand that NOS doesn't mean correct...

So, what is correct for the mesh? Argent or medium charcoal or ??? Two ro three colors for 70? Is it different for early vs. late 70?

    Anybody know?

    Thank you in advance.

I've got a note hanging on my computer that says "Duplicolor Charcoal Grey Pearl CC9091" . I don't know the exact colors/combos but this is another paint can source you might be able to use. Also..you could run a search using some of those words.

Also--maybe check George N's website buickperformance.com..maybe he has info on these grilles in his "Restoration" section

Keep this post up here or do some searching.....there should be a definitive posting (or a "sticky thread") for this information.

ANYONE KNOW ALL THE POSSIBLE COMBOS??????????????

C'mon folks!...someone's done a few of these 70 grilles on here...I know it's been discussed a few times. I checked George's website but this wasn't covered.

I had asked Duane Heckman and he suggested doing a search under "Dave Tumas"...I did that and found that there was a post that states, the colors for 70 are Black, Charcoal, and Argent. I located another grill that I beleive is an orginal and that is dark charcoal, medium charcoal and argent. I haven't painted yet...still researching...

    Thanks again.

Again, this may be an example of one of those "either is correct" or "early/late" deals. Seems I read some mention of that at one point.

Can you post a link to any of the threads...others are/will be probably looking for this info in the future and this thread will serve as a refresher.

    Thanks

All this is well and good but NO ONE has posted the correct color source for these paints. I too have asked on another thread for SOMEONE to share a SPECIFIC brand and part number for the correct paint.

As was previously said, others have done this already. I searched and came up blank. Can someone post a brand and code number for the correct colors? I would love a simple rattle can paint for touch up work but I can spray as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

    Update:

I did some more searching of previous posts. Jim Lore had posted in another thread that [PPG 3822] was a good match for Argent Silver. I did a Google for this and ended up at a Corvette site that listed paint colors and codes. Corvette color codes are at the bottom of this link.

I used their paint code for a 1999 Corvette Sebring Silver which was also cross referenced to match the [PPG 3822]. Then I went to the local Discount Auto Parts and checked with the touch up paints available. The Corvette paint cross references to the below Plastikote spray cans.

    Plastikote Touch Up Paint
    1 oz. spray can [GM 3859*] SILVER M B/C
    6 oz. spray can [GM 7199*] SILVER M B/C

Plastikote indicates this as a B/C paint (base coat - clear coat) to ensure proper match. I did buy the small spray can of the silver and I am test painting to check for color match. I am NOT going to clear over it as I think that will put too much gloss on the finish.

Anyhow, that's what I've come up with for a "possible" match for Argent Silver. I'll post the results of my test painting.

Anyone else have other sources for any of the Grill Colors?

    Thanks!!

Thank you for your help! So far, I've found SEM15253 Titanium Metallic for the mesh area. I sprayed a sample it is very, very close to the original I have. I'll take a look at the duplicolor p/n you mentioned. What is the finish on those (satin, gloss, etc...)?

    Thanks again for your help.

I sprayed some silver over a gray primered plastic this evening and set it aside to dry. I think the finish is going to be a "satin" finish since I'm NOT going to use a clear over the color.

Actually, I wonder if there is a "satin" clear that I can use. It might be a more durable finish if it is clear coated but I don't want a gloss finish.

Where did you get the SEM Titanium paint?

Let's keep sharing the info and maybe after we get all the correct paint color options figured out this thread could become a "sticky!"

I bought it locally at "Painters Supply". They also car plastic prep and adhesion promoter for plastic. I hoping to find an Argent in SEM as it is for rigid plastics and is not supposed to fade. They do offer clear in a few different finishes. As far as the black, I just picked up SEM satin. While at the paint store, they sprayed a sample of Duplicolor Wheel paint, it's close but I'm not happy with it...I'll only use it if can't find a better substitute.

It's a bit over whelming as I compare originals to can tops, the grill I have is more like a matt nickel finish, which Rustoleum makes. LOL

    Stay tuned...
