I thought I would post some pictures of two 70 GS grilles. Both are correct. One is a light argent color the other is a darker argent. I have not been able to figure out if they were used on specific color combo's or build dates. These colors were matched from nice original grilles. The lighter argent was used on the GSX grilles that I have seen. This grille will be going on the Unseen GSX. This is my last 70 GS grille I will be painting. I need the time for other pojects. Dave
From what I understand (and anyone correct me if I'm wrong) the grey grilles were on the earlier cars and were painted correctly with the dark argent. And the grey nos grilles, which I have two, were painted wrong from the factory. And the black grilles are the later ones, either on later cars or in later nos, all painted with the dark argent...but you say the light argent one you painted was matched from an original grille? I have in pieces an original grey grille (not nos) that is painted the darker argent. Sooo now what o No: btw AWESOME job on the paint work :TU: wow
I think it was whoever mixed the paint that day if the guy switched to decaf he forgot to add pigments and you got what you got!
Guy, I have seen original grilles both ways on the 70 GS. I have done three original GSX grilles with the lighter argent. I have also seen the darker argent on GS's. So far I can't put a pattern to the different colors. The same is true for the 71 GS grilles also. Most of the 71 grilles I have done were the lighter argent. But I have seen a few dark argent 71 grilles. Dave Dave, The light argent is the same color used on the 69 GS grille. The only thing I can figure out is maybe the vendor was doing a run of skylark grilles, and had paint left over and did not want to clean the equipment.
Dave, The grill looks great I can't wait to put it on the car. Thank you very much. I don not have that much more to do to the car,but it is the things that I am doing that takes so long. I am in the middle of doing a flat hood for the car with a Stage 2 Hood Scoop. I decided to use a air cleaner assembly from a 1970 Chevelle so for the bottom of the hood I made a pan like the one they use on a stock Chevelle to seal the hood to the air cleaner. I also have to finish the Stripe and the interior. Thanks Again.
