I managed to buy a 70 GS grille from GSCA and from what I've read these need to be painted,I've looked at a few threads on this subject and have a fairly good grasp on what needs to be painted,Can anyone steer me in the right direction for colors and definite painted areas -Thanks for Looking-Harry

Here is a picture of a 70 GS grille I restored for Jim Lore.
The body of the grille is silver. The waffle area is either a light or dark argent. (light argent is like a charcoal metallic, and dark argent is almost black with a metallic. )
The recessed areas are painted semi flat black. Plan on around 4 to 5 hours to mask and paint.

    Good luck

It is not just the painting but the fact that so often Dave starts with a basket case, performs a resurrection, and then paints them with his proprietary mix of colors to match the original look. They never looked so good new.

It is not an easy job the tape and paint one correctly.

Thought I'd bring this back to the top--- its important to many of us 'paint-it yourselfers' that will soon be receiving a repro- '70 grille.

Questions for you Dave, (Nice work, BTW) I have used a quality "Ralley wheel argent/silver" paint to do taillight lense edges--- does this sound similiar to the silver color you use on the grilles???
Also, I've seen a dark grey "Pontiac ralley II wheel inset" paint offered. This sounds like a dark argent, do you or anyone believe this might be a close match for the dark waffle area- painted GS grille???
One more, does the flat black continue from the center of the grille area onto the vertical area adjascent to the pronounced 'lip' of the grill?? Its hard to tell this detail from pics and I don't have access to an existing '70 GS grille..... (I really need to buddy up with some board members near me :Dou: )

Thanks for any help/opinions, I've searched this topic here, but I'm assuming the hacker did his thing to some similar postings...... :moonu: :spank: :Do No:

    Dan,
I had all my paints custom color matched at the local PPG paint store. Personally it is not worth the time involved to use spray cans to paint a grille. The finish will not last especially on a driver. All I can tell you is to get a bright silver paint , semi flat black, and if the wheel paint is a charcoal color it will work. You could also paint the waffle area semi flat black for a driver. If you need a concourse quality paint job I would be happy to help you with your project.

Thanks Dave, your point is well taken. Thanks for offering your services. Mine is a SLOW project right now, just got excited about this grille lately. Expect to hear from me about some grille studs in the near future......
    .....again, appreciate the thoughts.
