Found out the hard way that torsion bars are different from hardtop to conv. Looking for one more bar since this one is missing one. TIA
Tell your customer to call me! I have him covered. I also have to send a set of 72 bumper brackets, correct??? Adam, PM me your number please
Adam, The torsion bars are a mirror version of themselves, so make sure you get the right one or you will have 2 of the same, and will still need the other one. Duane
Duane- no difference between 70-72, Skylark or GS, correct? These were the same through the model line, correct?
We have taken them off one brand and stuck them on another, so I think the convertible torsion bars are the same for 68-72 GM A-Bodies, but have not verified that. Now the ones for the Coupes are different for the cars with the Rear Spoilers, at least for the 71-72 Buicks, I know they are thicker. (Not sure on the 70 GSX Buicks.) For the coupes I personally would want to keep them for the same trunk lids, ie The 70-72 Buicks used the same trunk lid as the 68-72 Chevelle's and 70-72 Monte Carlo's so I would stick with them. They may be all the same, as their are different locations where you can mount the bars on the shells, but again I never referenced all of them. Duane PS. You might want to see if repros are available for the Chevelles, but then you have to weigh in the fact that they are repros, vs used originals. The question would be did they tension/harden them correctly? I generally go with original parts whenever possible, but whatever you do be careful. We tried to relocate one of the bars on a Coupe we were putting a rear spoiler on and when we started closing the trunk lid the bar went off like a grenade, and sent some small thin pieces flying. At that point we had to find another bar, and fix the dent in the quarter. Adam, here's a hint for you............................. you might want to install the bar and close the trunk lid a few times before you paint the car.
I believe that all of the 68-72 A-body convertibles should have the same length torsion rods. However,I have found most hardtop rods to be longer. The oddity is the 70-72 Cutlass Supreme which has the same trunklid and 1/4’s as the convertible, and share that width of rod. There might be a few others, like Monte or Gran Prix.
