Hey, guys. Finally got things going on my restoration. Looking forward to learning more about the car from you guys and cataloging the restoration.

Welcome! Good lick with the resto; how deep are you diving? We like pics and info, especially on such a rare car.

It's a complete frame off resto. I'm trying to make everything as close to 100% factory as possible ( all the engine components, paint, interior etc). Right now, "new" quarters are being fitted as well as floors at the body shop while I hunt down numbers matching '70 engine components.

Don't have too many pics right now. Planning on cleaning out the basement to look for some engine parts this weekend so I'll post some pics of whatever gems I find then.

That looks vaguely familiar. And I have memories of doing it and doing it again. Someday!

Hey all. Haven't posted in a while, not much has been going on with the resto although I did take the block to the machine shop, had it all cleaned up, assembled and blue printed (I'll post pics when I get a chance to take some). Found out one of the heads I got with the engine is cracked so I need to find a new '70 cast number head but aside from that everything else is good on it.

I'm gonna be storing the engine for the winter, it's just the short block. Can any of you guys with more knowledge than me recommend a way of prepping/ storing it for the winter. I'm not sure what to use to coat the inside of the engine, I've heard mixed things about wd40 and I know oil isnt the best option. Thanks in advance.

You may want to post the range of head date codes that would fit your car.

    From what I know it would be 1231786 for a 70. Stage1registry.com shows 1231786
1240149# / 1240150 but the 2nd and 3rd numbers show as being from other year vehicles as well. I want to restore the car to being all '70 numbers, not sure if they truly are interchangeable numbers or if the car being a factory stage 1 makes a difference?

I also found a few timing covers in my basement and curious if they too were stamped according to year?

Stage 1 heads carry the same numbers as non stage one heads. They use the same base casting.

Heads carry a month and day date code. You want a head that is date coded by month and day close to your current heads--- assuming they are original to the car. For example, if your car was built in December, 1969, there is not a lot to be gained by buying a March 3, 1970 date coded 1231786 head.

Post a picture of the face of your heads without the valve covers and we will tell you your date codes.
