Why would someone go through all that trouble to get to that stage and then get "bored"?? He's just about done! Cool car Todd
Yes they did run.Roger Penske owned the team and Mark Donahue was there original driver and later bobby Allison drove the "Bug Eyed" Matadors. They were reasonably successful in NASCAR, winning I think a couple of races.
floyd's right. It's a Matador Machine, and I believe only one exists that I recall. This may make two as I remember the other one being silver.
OK. Guys like this grind me. Here we have an example of a possible 1 of 2 surviving car. So what possesses people to start chroming the PS pump, fan, fan shroud, shock towers, custom seat covers, and MSD distributor. Not to mention with all that underhood polishing you leave the master cyclinder and wiper motor in rusty condition.    Next he'll put a DieHard battery in there along with a Stant flip lever radiator cap on the rad. ARGH! And call it N.O.S.- Mint RESTORATION ! What is this thing worth???? Should this be in the upper stratosphere along with 427 Thunderbolts and COPO ZL-1 Camaros in the $six figure$ range????? Would it be worth more if he actually RESTORED all the custom stuff instead??? Or, does this fall under the category of "It's rare, but nobody wants one of these wacky things" so the price will max out below $20,000??
Not exactly sure where Springfield, NJ is, but do know that Mark Donahue was from Delaware County, Pa. (Media?) and that's very close to Philadelphia. Connection? Frank: Some people just like to do things like that to their cars. Doesn't sound like he hurt anything doing it and could be returned back to original pretty easily. Good point about the rusty stuff, that can happen when cars are totally restored to original condition including bare castings after a period of time. I'm putting a set of Holley finned aluminum valve covers on my 400 in my 68 W30. Can we still be friends? :Brow: :beer
I was born and raised in Media with Donahue living on the next street over from us. My father had a chance to buy the '69 Camaro Pace Car he was awarded for winning a race (I'm not sure what race), but he passed on it :ball: .
How about that, Gregg. I lived in Wallingford during High school and my parents lived there until we lost them a coupla years ago. My brother, Don, still lives in Glen MIlls (near Lima). Both he and I played basketball for Nether Providence. Beautiful country and the greatest hoagies and steak sandwiches on this earth. There is no comparison. :TU:
As long as you don't go around shouting about how "original" and "mint" and "NOS" everything under the hood is!
I didn't chrome it, I bought it that way! LOL Have no fear, Mikey-san. The proper hod-ware will be in place by next season. Hoffman's Winner's Circle now produces a complete engine bolt/accessory bolt kit. I will even paint the 340 the proper TURQUOISE (yuck-phooey. I HATE that color ) too. When I bought this POS back in 1996, the 360 truck engine under the hood has a mis-matched set of bolts holding most everything in its leaky place. If there were 4 bolts holding something down, one was snapped off in the block, another was a dry wall screw, and the remaining were two proper bolts. Faced with that pile of incomplete/incorrect crap, I opted for the nifty ARP Complete Engine Bolt Kit to hold together my "new" 340 instead. All things will be proper soon. :bglasses:
