hey, fjr I'm from NJ how about i go steal one of his valve stem caps and let the original air out of his tire.
and yes it is a cool car, but not quite the tire burning appeal of a 360 shoved into a hornet :). DAVE

You won't have any problem telling this one from an original, mint, NOS one. It started off as an original, mint 68 W30 shell and frame, but that's all that was there. Rest had been ebayed one piece at a time by a baseball card trader.

With no paperwork, tired of the arguments, so decided to build it the way I want it. I think you'll like it.

    What the Heck!

40 to 50 grand! Why Would someone put that much money out on a car that you could never run hard for fear of breaking and not being able to replace the parts! A weekend left???? Then just grin and bear it and Finish it and then sell it! Lot more Money $$$$$$$, in a finshed car! Something does not add up on this! Unless it is some Millionaire that just wants to throw his money away? LIKE THAT WOULD HAPPEN! Think about it....Thats like swimming three quaters across the English channel and turning back and saying that you got to tired to swim the rest of the way! :Dou: :Do No:   :ball:

40 to 50K over 6 years is less than 10 grand a year ($6667 to $8334 a year in a car) which is not uncommon in this hobby. I have a buddy who has $30K into a 1969 442 he has had since 1998 and he hasnt even done the interior or bodywork yet. AS far as running it or breaking it, it isn't like any of the parts on this car are extremely rare, it is the factory combination of those parts that makes it rare. Parts are available for 401 AMC motors, and just about all mechanical pieces on the car, and the AMC owners tend to be a tight knit group and you can pretty much find whatever you need for all AMC cars through them.

As far as finishing the car, some people just lose interest, and others run out of money. Either way the car won't get finished unless it is sold to someone else. It sounds like the owner was an amature hobbist doing a restoration they way he wanted and for what ever reason is unable to finish the car. To use your english channel analogy: it is like swiming three quarters of the way, realizing you cannot make it to the other side and either 1) drowing, 2) grabbing a life line that lifts you out of the water. In this case he can either put the project on hold until interest or funds allow and possibly take a loss on the car as the condition starts to deteriorate from lack of use (drowning) or he can sell the car and get out of the project and get some of his money back (grabbing a life line). Either way he isn't getting to the other side of the channel and finishing the car. Somethings in life just prevent people from finishing a car (death in the family, losing a job, etc...), it happens and it sucks but what you gonna do.

Dude chill out, seriously. Nobody is following you around (paranoid much?) and I am certantly not busting your chops. You said the you would not be able to get parts for a car like that and all I said it's to combination that makes it rare and that most of the parts are available. Is that a personal attack? no. You insinuate there is something fishy about the guy not finishing the car, when in fact there are a million completely normal reasons why someone would get close and not finish (run out of money is one, a kid in college is another, lost interest is also viable, nothing fishy about those reasons). I don't see how anything in my post is busting your chops. SO I disagree with your opinion, so what. I don't see anything in there that is a personal attack on you so: Take your meds, take a breather, relax and learn how to talk to people.

Trust me, I'm not one of those anal retentive types that MUST have the proper shade of violet paint daub on the end of the steering coupler roll pin. I'm all for repop parts if you can't find/afford the "proper" date coded stuff. Heck, most of my car is repop stuff because it was such a mess that the original stuff was looooong gone, and nobody cared/knew about A-body date coded parts when I was doing the rebuild 6year's ago. If I had a B or E body, then no problem. A body's? Folks just threw them out. I just hate those that bandy about the "original" or "restored" label when there's a ton of stuff that isn't! I have a older issue of "Collector Car" that I picked up when they featured the 67-69 GTS. Every "original" GTS pictures has SERIOUS stuff wrong on the cars. Example: Rallye rims on a 1969. :blast: And all the pics are being used as "reference" ?!?!? I don't think so! That's what grinds me. :Smarty:

Frank, sometimes you really crack my ass up.. thanx for the laugh.. can you just imagine someone in the paint dept of Slum Depot checking out color swatches for a roll pin.. uh sirrr, is this for your daughter's crib?? uh, no man, it's for an A body Mopar roll pin.

    I'm here for you Jim!

The really sad part is that I bet we ALL know somebody in the hobby that is a fanatic about the date coding, paint daubing, factory paint drooling "authenticity" of their cars!
I'm glad I'm not one of them. I have a life to lead! :pp

Hhmm......................I used to live up the hill from Springfield, NJ in Summit, NJ before moving back to Edison, NJ, stayed there for about a year.................now I live in Bakersfield, Ca. I wish I knew there was a resto shop that way or else I would've checked it out

if any of you do decide to go to Springfiled, NJ to see this car...............be sure to swing by Cioffi's pizzaria for some good food.................and make sure you swing by and kiss Tony Soprano's ring while you're in NJ.................. :) or else you'll be swimming with the fishies :Brow:

So Erwin, how is sunny California? I saw something on the weather channel yesterday that blew my mind. They were showing the air quality ratings across the US, and California was one of the best (much better than here in the Midwest).

You asked in a post sometime back what I had out back that you could build. He's the current crop:

Thanks for asking...............I'm trying to adjust but I can't bring myself to get used to the ways of life here in Caifornia  These people here are too easy going for me..............I'm not used to stopping for pedestrians............and nobody honks their horn at you............ But I'll be fine.............but the best part................I'm a stay-at-home dad for now :)

Too kinda get off topic for a moment..............I went to the big car show here in Bakersfield today here's the webpage for it http://www.hwy99cruise.com out of the 500 + cars that showed up....................only 1 F@@@KIN' Oldsmobile  So I tried to talk the owner into joing the local BOP club so we'll see

BTW! Congrats on becoming a grandpa..............I see a resemblence :)

White one is sold. Will be used to rebody/frame a 68 442 HT that fell apart in storage. It's been my parts car for my 68 442 W30 red car, still have to get the dash and side glass out of it. Originally a six automatic with only 32k on it. Engine went into my neighbor's I/O boat.

Back car is the 64 from ROP. Needs a complete new body from the doors back. Doubt I'll do anything with it. Too bad as I have the protecto plate and all documentation back to new. Bought it mainly for this which was added later:

That looks like the same interior color as my first 64 :)
I forgot that you had bought that one on ROP. Was the motor and trans still in that one? Nice score on the console :TU:
That is a shame that the body is rotted. :(
If you decide to part it out let me know. Don't need the console but may need a few other parts. :)

The console and 4 speed are for my 66 project, which is all I'm after. This car could be saved with a rear clip. Even one from a 4 door would work as it's OK up to the rear wheel openings (which were cut). I'm not planning to part it out, but sell it complete minus the trans and console. Engine & trans were gone when I got it. Interested? Price will be right. You'll probably see it on ROP, ebay after that. Hate to send it to the great graveyard. I love 64's.

MIller, that AMC Matador is Butt Ugly. Period.

Hmmm I think if I brought home another whole car I may get my walking papers
I have 5 at home right now and 1 stored at work. If I could I would though, I also love 64's.
    We'll see :Brow:
