71 GS hood question

Hi guys, the hood on my GS has a Buick emblem on the front. Is this a 71 hood? Most of the hoods that I see don't have the Buick emblem on them. This is a circular coat of arms Buick shield on the front of the hood. There are two small holes that hold it in place. Should I weld up the holes? Is this original? Thank you.

I would weld it up and get rid of it I have never seen an emblem on a 70/71GS I have seen them on Sum 72GS's and skylarks.

 

Thanks guys, I'll weld it up. Maybe the hood was replaced at some point with a 72 hood?

 

My understanding is that many, if not all of the NOS hoods has the 2 holes so quite possibly was replaced along the way. Date code would tell you.

I thought some were on GS's built at the Fremont plant, where was yours built? I doubt anyone decided to just add that on there.
