    Hi,
I have a 71 GS with AC. I bought a 71 service manual. My dash controller looks nothing like anything in the service manual. It has a lever that moves left to right, for the temperature. The service manual shows something entirely different. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up the vacuum lines to my controller, but I'm lost. Perhaps I got an AC unit from a '70? Any other ideas?
Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

I think that if you post a picture of your controller, you will get a pretty quick answer.

70-72 all the same. There are several vacuum fittings on back. The hoses are all color coded. There is a diagram in manual. You should be able to figure it. Your controls for AC should look like this. Up and down lever on the left that controls fan speed. Middle lever moves left and right for temperature. And on the left another up and down lever for AC, Vent, Deice, Heat Etc. It sounds like you have the correct unit.

Thanks for the response. It does not look like the picture in my service manual. I took a picture of my unit.
Anyway, I don't feel comfortable following the directions in my service manual to hook up the vacuum lines because it calls for an entirely different head unit than what I have (and it's a pain to pull the dash apart and get the head unit out to do this twice!)

that's a very normal looking A/C Climate Control for 1969-1972 A body Buick. The vacuum diagram is below.

Make sure you are looking at the correct series car, in the manual.
43-44000 series is the Skylark/GS, 45-46-48-49000 series are the bigger cars & the controls are quite different.

BW, where are you looking?? The correct stuff is in the 71 service manual. Steve is correct you need to look at correct pages. Picture of dash unit is on page #13-58 and again on page #13-63 which also shows the correct vacuum hookup color codes. It is accurate.

Guys, thanks for all your feedback. My service manual shows nothing like that, on ANY page. I bought my service manual off ebay, who knows what's inside the binder. Dang it! Now I have to go buy another.
Thanks for posting the schematic, that's a huge help.

Bw, it does not sound like you have a service manual. Do you really have an assembly manual? The 71 Buick servece manula is tan in color and is about three inches thick. It says "1971 Buick Chassis Service Manual All Series" on the cover.

I looked last night. You are right in suggesting that I'm not looking at an actual service manual. I have a 1971 Buick Chassis New Products Service Manual. So, what that means, is that it only shows pictures of new products or changes introduced in 1971, with a seemingly random quantity of filler associated with old products. Now I know. Thanks for the help.

Ben, I have a copy of that as well. That is what dealers got when the 71's forsat came out. Ity is the samae color and design as full service manual but only has about a tenth of content. Try and find a full size edition. Usually abotu $50-$75
