Well i'm finally back at it, and I came across a nice hurdle that I had forgot about. As you can see from the pix's the car has been rear ended at one time. The quarter panel will be coming back off which is a good thing because it was only braised on after the accident which probably happened 20 years ago. So now it will be welded back on the right way. Another thing you can see in the pix's is that the trunk lid is overlapping the qtr extension. And this is with the trunk adjusted all the way to the right. More and more surprises with this job.

And here is the new piece that will be replacing the twisted section I have cut otut.

Thanks Bill,.... well i'm here and i'm back for the duration of this beast. It was hard to get back on track after I went to school. My mind was literally fudged up. I wasn't in any mind set to be doing any type of restoration work but I am now. This thread will be updated weekly or even daily depending how things change.

Well today's job was to remove the qtr panel and see what lies underneath. While I was breaking the welds loose the panel kept popping because it was under pressure from being installed wrong. Now to repair all the fudged up work that was done. See pic's.......

Pretty sad they didn't use the whole qtr panel.

No I meant whoever did the job prior to me never did it properly and I was just pointing out what they did. As you can see they cut the qtr at the door jam too.

    :moonu: Pooooooooor Marc. :moonu:
I can just imagine the original conversation you had with Jarrod.

Marc: "So all you see is a little surface rust at the bottom of the quarters?"
Jarrod: "Yes Marc. It'll buff right out. No problem. I'll just look over the rest of her while I have it here."

    BWAAAA_HA_HA!!!!!!!!!

................now back to the real world.

It is comforting to know that when you get her back you will have a car that is done correctly by someone who actually gives a s#!t about the quality of his work.
Nice catch Jarrod. I'm dealing with the same issues on my own GS. Someone installed the left quarter 3/4" short from jamb to cross.:af:

Well as you can see from the pix's below drilling was in order to get these piece's apart. After three of my very nice spot weld bits breaking,... I ended up going back to the old method of step drilling,.... and if there's one thing I hate, it's drilling.

A rusted out section for the outer wheel house is going to be replaced with this nice rust free one that I had hanging around. The original section rotted away from the extra layer of sheetmetal that wasn't removed and it caught a lot of extra crap over the years. Which caused it to rust.

Drilled all these out as well, never realized there were that many spot welds for one section on a convertibel until now.

OK since the guy brazed the qtr on, and I heated it up to remove it, the metal is very weak now. So the rear filler panel is going to get new handmade section put on.

Well decided to put the whole back panel in since I seen another hurdle.
After I drilled all the spot welds I placed it on the vehicle and this is how it looks CLAMPED.
Now without clamps and you can see we have a problem. I guess the trunk floor was replaced in it before it got straightened so this is causing it to come up short. So I will be cutting the floor just above the rear body mount brace to fix the problem and adding some more metal.

The things you find while repairing. Lucky this isn't a show car.

Well I got the rear trunk section gap fixed. Seems the car had part of the frame repaired before it got to me, so a lot of hammering and pounding got me back in shape. I ended up leveling the car on all four corners then I used a laser level to give me something to go by at the back and in the end I got this result. As you can see the laser line is dam perfect from side to side.

    Today was an excellent day!

Oh yeah I used a cordless drill, round wooden block and a piece of a cement block and that little piece of towel on the floor to do all this work,....:TU: as you can see from the pix. LMFAO!
