Believe it or not I have not done a 72 GS grille. Duane has already called me. From the research I have done the grille Nelson posted pictures of is correct. Buick didn't use high gloss black on the grilles.
Jason, When I got my '72 back in '02, the grill seemed very original and not restored. The silver surrounded the entire egg crate section, ending up with that vertical bar you mentioned. I feel that egg crate section has argent all around the perimeter and Adam's is correct, except the black should be more flat. Troy
It it only takes a minute to actually paint the grills (3 colours), but takes SO LONG to tape them. I painted two grills.
You may be right Troy! I just looked at my 72 convertible and low and behold I saw this. Now I have to start noticing original grills on 72's.
That is great to confirm! I can remember masking that area when I restored my grill. Wow that was a pain! Troy
Preparing a 71 or 72 grill for painting is super time consuming. The actual application of the paint is minutes. The 71's are even worse
Old thread. Sorry, but I'm trying to figure the least impact full way to strip the paint off of the grille on a '72
Spray it down with Easy off oven cleaner and then put it in a black plastic trash bag so the over cleaner stays wet. Leave it for 24 hours and hose it off. It may need a couple of applications
