I picked up a Skylark AM FM Stereo Radio. I know that they were only available in 72 and that they are kind of rare. It's the one with the red dot light on the dial face. I plan on putting it in my 71 GS soon, just gathering the needed parts right now. I picked up a 6x9 10 ohm Factory GM rear speaker. The radio has a blue wire, with a hard shell plug coming off the back of the radio for the rear speaker. Do I just run one wire back to the rear speaker? Does the speaker have to be grounded? Which connector do I hook it to on the speaker itself? There are 2 connections there.

I've done some searching on here, and picked up the GM part number for the rear speaker, but I still have some concerns.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't have an AM/FM in my car to check (wish I did!), but you should have more than one wire coming out the back for that radio. Each speaker should have two wires dedicated to it, none of which are grounded to the chassis. And since you have FM, you'll need two speakers, a left and a right, to take advantage of the stereo. My digital manual indicates that the AM/FM radio for a '72 put out "dual stereo", which most likely means a front and rear set of speakers. Is there a place in the back of your radio that looks like it was made for a wiring harness to plug into?

Yes, the main harness feeds the front speaker, and the 12 volt, and the blue pig tail off the back is for the rear speaker.

Per the wiring diagrams the big car units should have two seperate wires going to each front speaker, one blue wire going to the right rear, and a brown wire going to the left rear. The rear speakers are grounded to the chassis/body. The A-body setup will have two wires going to the front speaker and a blue wire going to the rear speaker. Like in the big cars, the rear speaker is grounded to the chassis/body.
