    Installed the sound deadener

Update on my latest progress! Went with Hushmat as it worked well in my buddy's car. The install went really easy, my wife and I completed it in a saturday, of course the cars interior was out and everything was freshly primed so it was a lot of peel and stick then roll.

Put deadener in the trunk, rear qtrs, doors, rear wheel wells, firewall and floors. What a difference in the deadening of the panels. We also put small pieces in between the layers on the trunk lid.

Not sure what to expect overall because this is a convertible and no matter what it will never be as tight as a coupe.

this past weekend added some cool! March Serpentine System

So I got my March system this past week, this saturday Jimy (James P) swung by and we installed it. It went together real straight forward, I had to swap out my long water pump for a short one and then we were off and running.

I went with the full serpentine system with a/c and the newer style ps pump that uses a remote reservoir.

Here are some shots of the install.

Looking forward to the AC install...planning to do the same to mine or something similar. Want to smooth my firewall as well and it's not an original AC car. Keep up the great work!

Tim, nice but I would have installed the booster and other firewall parts before the engine

guys got the a/c evaporator box mount figured out along with finally got my shifter in from Mcleod. Will post info on a/c system and pic's shortly.

John, you are right. I would recommend design and prefit everything prior to paint, because the risk to the paint is far to great. I did not have the booster or a/c evaporator at the time the body was put on the frame due to funds, but I do not see either of these as show stoppers for installing either component.

    a/c evaporator install

The challenge was doing the fitting and install of a/c evaporator after a completed and painted smooth firewall.

After some trial fitting I got the solution I wanted for mounting a Vintage Air Gen IV Chevelle evaporator kit. I was not able to find any company that provided any real solution once the smoothing and paint was completed so...save yourself energy and when possible prefab fitting and mounting brackets before paint.
for those who get into this same situation here is what I did to mount the box.

Upon inspection of the area I noticed a very small area where the firewall and wiper well are joined at the top of the firewall. Using flat stock from HomeDepot I designed my mounting brackets intending to slide the flat stock up into that gap between firewall and wiper well.

    What you need is 3ft flat stock, 4 -1/4 x 3/4 carriage bolts, 2 - 1/4 x 3/4 hex bolt, 6 - 1/4 hex nuts, washers, hushmat or dynamat.

    1. Drill two holes in the wiper well same distance apart as the Vintage Air mount.
    2. Cut flat stock to lenght, I go this by adding the total wiper well height plus a couple inches to get the evaporator at the height then add the lenght of the Vintage Air mount. This may change depending on your perference
    3. Bend the flat stock to lay flat with the firewall and also match the curve of the wiper well.
    4. Place flat stock into the gap of the wiper well, mark the location of the holes. Align Vintage Air mount to the bottom of the fat stock and mark mount holes.
    5. Drill the holes and weld nuts to the top of the flat stock for the wiper well holes and using carriage bolts weld to align with the Vintage Air suppplied mount. Grind back of nuts to fit in the gap, then paint.
    6. Cut the wiper well top bolts down to 5/8" so they would not hit the firewall.
    7. Place the flat stock up into the wiper well and align with previously drilled
    holes and install the bolts.
    8. Take the Vintage Air bracket and align the top holes with the bottom bolts on the mounting stock. You need to do this step to align brackets prior to fastening with the Hushmat or Dynamat.
    9. Install Hushmat over the mounting stock to secure into place.
    10. Mount the Vintage Air bracket to the Vintage Air evaporator and then install the evaporator to the now secured mounting stock.

Here are a few pics but forgot to get a pic of the mounting stock prior to covering it with Hushmat.

4sp shifter and clutch and brake pedals installed

Finally found a company to build me a shifter for my Tremec 3550 TKO 5spd. I bought the tranny so long ago 2003 that since then they modified the shifter mount sometime 04-05 and of course there were none available for anything but mustangs. Mcleod Shifters actually still had the info and was willing to build me one.

Here is the installed shifter and the pedals.

Just wondering how this car came out. No updates since 2011. The car was really taking shape. Really a neat build.

Re: 72 Skylark convertible pro-touring build - Latest Updates

It has been awhile but we are finally making some progress on the car. First it sat in my garage for over a year after my last update and then I decided to get on the list and send it back to Sean @ Paintworks Unlimited in Dover. We had progress but not sexy progress if you know what I meanwiring, plumbing, fabricating, plastic welding of duct work from the old Buick vents to the new Vintage Air. All these things take time to get through, but we are moving forward again at a nice pace.

We have the radiator and fans installed as well as the Hydratech system
    [IMG]

We have almost all of the wiring hidden and Vintage Air a/c lines tucked out of sight, this took a substantial amount of time to accomplish this look.

Check out how well the Chevelle Vintage Air controls work on our Buick Dash Bezel. With the black versus the woodgrain dash decals it looks like it was always there!

Big news is the motor is alive! 10 years after taking delivery in March of 2004 we have life. We did have to replace the EFI ECU because the original one was dead, and it was smarter in the long run to upgrade to the latest configurations and connections. We have some mapping to get through but that is ok.

We are moving forward with bumpers and front end grill assembly.

Next up interior and convertible top and another shot at some wheels
