Triple black '68 Charger RT is just like the one in the movie "Bullit" with Steve McQueen. That '74 Stage 1 Riv should have a letter "V" in the vin for the engine code.

V-code 455 were the real deal Stage1 engines with different carb, distributor and cam. For Riviera the letter W was used cause this wasnt really a stage1 engine, it only carries the large valves. No real Stage1 engines were put in Rivieras nor centurions.

yeah show pics of the charger and satellite, I have a junker 73 roadrunner and a 69 383 matching charger to arrive. Am a mopar fan myself also.

Cool cars! I think it also would be hard to walk pass that 73 charger, even if its rusty.
When I get the charger I will first keep it to enjoy, sell it later cause I really want a 4 speed pistol grip roadrunner of bee. Cant have it all..... :Smarty:

But first I'll keep enjoying to ride my 72 Riviera GS and it really goes :3gears:

Here's a pic, its an original brown metallic/black top (new paint now) 383 magnum car. #matching 383, rebuilt with slightly hotter cam, rebuilt 727. New legendary black interior (floorshift), new seats, doorpanels, carpet, headliner. This car hasnt never seen rust ever, pretty rare for a mopar :)
First I have to enjoy it myself :), guess price would be somewhere between 25-30K

    Hope the pics gets through

I know this is an old thread but I just ran across all of you concerning 1974 Buick Riviera GS Stage 1 model. I am restoring one with the stage 1 motor (1698 were made), the Air Cushion Restraint System (airbag car), Max-Trac car and many other options. The car is all original everything is there but she is in bad shape from rust. Needs floorboards, all body panels, and firewall all rotted away. Finding a parts car is quite difficult because in 1974 there was a strike at GM that went on too long and sales were below 1/2 leaving only 20,192 Rivieras sold that year when they normally got out about 50,000 or more.

In 1974 only 329 Rivieras received the airbags, in 1975 there were only 25, in 1976 there were only six. Those 31 cars are long gone. At this point in time I feel safe to say I am the last airbag Riviera in existence. Of all the high line models they did from Impala to Riviera to Electra to LeSabre to 98's to 88's to Toronado and Cadillac Coupe de Ville to Sedan de Ville to Eldorado hardtops (no convertibles used) no one ever ordered an airbag car as they were already in cars for sale. It was on the window sticker at $110.00 and people were forced to take the car with the airbags in them.

I have a spare set of airbags that I bought from someone in case there becomes a problem. Whenever I see a 74-76 GM full size car I call to see if it is an airbag car. They are all 3 spoke wheels. As far as the Max-trak they made it from 1971 to the second week of production in 1974 and could never get it to work the way they wanted it to. So 2 weeks into 74 production they dropped it and only 5 cars came out with Max-Trak. After 42 years I am safe to say I am the only car left of those 5 Max-Trak.

I have the build sheet the car was built in Flint on 2/26/74 but was not sold for the first time until 7/8/76 according to the original bill of sale. This car sat on the dealer lot for 2 1/2 years until it was sold as a used car with miles run up on it. So this car holds 2 distinctions 1.was the last airbag car off all the models they made to be sold in 76 and 2. was the last 74 car of any type sold in 76. I have found many other interesting things about this car.

The car is painted Sand Beige #50 and has a saddle roof and pleather interior. The car has the ride & handling package, J size tires, 7" rims, posi rear 3.23, 8track radio, twilight sentinel, rear sway bar and Comfortron heating and air conditioning.

This is how the airbags were started in 1973 Chevy sent out 1000 Impalas to their distributors and asked for a report on the cars. The report came back good as there were no cars crashed so GM decided to add it to the option list at Chevy dealers. Within 2 months there was so much hollering at Chevy dealers that they dropped the option of the airbags. People were not ready for airbags. The next day GM took the Riviera, Electra, LeSabre, 98, 88, Toronado and Coupe & Sedan Cadillac & Eldorado hardtops only. They put the airbags in cars that were picked coming down the line. No customer ever ordered an airbag car. GM had hoped to get out over 100,000 but when they were done it was a little over 10,100 total. Then they fought the US government against airbags for 20 years when they had something that worked. The interesting thing about about the airbag cars the whole assembly was the same in all airbag cars same parts.

Right now she is sitting on four jack stands in my garage just a shell and a chassis waiting until I find a decent parts car and get her restored. I hope you get this being it is so old but pass on all you now know about this car.

    John
