Hi V8Buick, I'm installing Hooker headers and hit a brick wall. I'm having a time trying to remove the support bar that runs from frame to front on both sides. The nut inside the frame is turning along with the bolt. What damage will it do to drive if I cut them off on both sides? Or, how do I remove them?
On my '76 I just reached a standard wrench into the frame opening where the A-arm goes. Ratchet on the outside bolt. I'm pretty sure the frame side does the same thing. I don't remember any big deal about it. I do remember they have to go if you want a set of headers on there.
I cut off a bolt head to move out of the way. Driver side header is up. Passenger side and tomorrow are another day. Thanks.
Got the headers and full exhaust up. After driving it last week I need to re-tighten the bolts, replace driver side header gasket and change the oil.
I could not find them through Summit. For the price, I'll try at another time since I've already ordered Hooker and Fel-Pro gaskets to try out. The Hookers are leaking on driver side rear...frustrating to not drive the car but oh well.
Save yourself the hassle and order these: http://www.bjsoffroad.com/Remflex-Exhaust-Gaskets-Buick-350_p_730.html
Alright. I found them on Summit Racing after some deep digging. Ordered and should have them Monday. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rfl-13-005
Yup that’s them...just be sure NOT to overtighten them. They work best with moderate torque on the bolts and the gaskets have a rebound and hold tight. No need to re torque.
Finally got the gasket in and installed on driver side. Most likely will do the pass side over the weekend. Not very please with the mufflers - glass pack sound when secondaries open. Anyway - on to the next thing(s): water pump, intake, thermostat and rear end bushings. Thanks for the recommendations.
