Hello. I have a 69 gs with the stock 2.93 posi rear end. Will the 3.42 gears that are being made for this work with my stock carrier or do I have to find a 3 series? Thanks
We checked a couple of months back and Fabcraft indicated that they have no current plans to make another run of the 68-70 Buick 8.2 3.42 or 3.64 gear sets. Something could have changed since the first of the year.
Last I heard, Fabcraft didn't have a new run yet but that might have changed. Unless TA Performance has some. Try calling them, https://fabcraftmetalworks.com/product/rear-axlerab4-08342/ You'll need a 3 series carrier, unless you can use a ring gear spacer. http://www.jdrace.com/content/diff_id/10bBOP_Buick.php
Last time FabCraft made a run, they said that might be it,so I bought 6 sets. They went quick, and all I have is my own. I know TA had discussed having an exclusive on the gears, but that didn’t happen.
I spoke with a couple of people at FabCraft last week. They are finishing up a run of big car Pontiac rear gears - their main business. I was told that considering wrapping up that big project, the pandemic and (working through) a change in suppliers, they were intending to take a short break heading into the last part of 2020. Here's the POSITIVE NEWS, they are taking names so they can have a list of people on stand-by and potentially call asking for 50% refundable deposit. I was specifically inquiring about 3.42's. He said that after the last 2nd run of only 3.42's, the guys wanting 3.64's started appearing. My point is that NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP UP. FabCraft will take your name and add it to their list... and as 2020 winds down, communicating your interest is important. CALL THEM and inquire about being put on the list.
That is how they did it before the last run. They took a deposit, and which ratio you wanted. That’s when I told them 3 of each ratio, and gave them half down. That should work again this time.
Someone should ask if this site can put a post up for these Fabcraft gears explaining how to do it all and post the Number / link cost etc. That is if the site wants to help. I have been doing my part to get income back to Fabcraft best I can buying the 9.3 gears. Just have to remember when owning a business it takes equity to run a business.... I have NEVER asked any customer for money down on anything being created or a job. I made Custom 9.3 carriers when there were non.... I made my own 8.8 because I could do it cheaper than what was on the market. Just tightened the belt and when all in. If it is a main steam item you have to just keep building and make good decisions and know your clientele. I never want to see anyone go out of business. Jim JD Race
YES! I called and spoke with Dave...awesome guy! He put me on the list and he's hoping they start next year!
I am on the list as well. Dave is a good guy. refunded me $16 in shipping cost due to an over estimate for shipping. Good Business to work with. Got my stuff from them in about 4 days.
