8.5 axle

Hello, I have a 8.5 rear end in my 69 skylark. Currently is has a 28 spline posi unit and stock axels. I have a factory 30 spline posi unit I want to install and use a hardened 30 spline axel. It seems like all the axels I am finding are C Clip axels and this rear end uses a bolt in axel. Does anyone know where I could get a quality 30 spline bolt in axel for an 8.5 A body rear end?

I get mine made from Moser. I have a sheet with all the specs. These are for 71/72 8.5” 10-bolts,like what came in the Skylark/GS.
What “factory” posi unit do you have that is 30-spline. GM started putting Auburn in,when they went to 30-spline,like what the Caprice:Impalas had. A good street unit,but don’t expect the world from it.

 

I think it is the Auburn unit that GM used. Although it might not be the best posi, it has to be an improvement over my 28 spline factory GM posi. I knew I could get some custom made, but was hoping I could find some that were a stock/shelf part.

Brian what does a set of them through Moser run for a good race axle. Since this is coming up on the board I'm going to take this as my sign to get off my but and get these done on my car

 

When I order mine,I get them with the studs and retainer plates,but I put my own bearings on. Many years ago,I ordered a set,and they pressed them on backwards. Money not-well spent. I also pay the $20.00 for the access hole,so you can bolt them in with a socket. They are about $450.$475.00 by the time they are shipped to your door. 28-spline is the same as 30-spline,so it’s a no-brainer to upgrade to 30-spline at that time.

 

Sound good I will budget, just have to change spools to 30 but should be done anyways

I put the bearings on here. They use SKF,and I use Timken. They have also installed them backwards before,so one time was enough.

 

so you get axles, bearings , seals, studs, and retaining plates, INSTALLED and shipped for 450.00 -475.00 That is a pretty good deal. I will buy them from you.

 

Monzaz, would you be willing to share a PO # you used for some 8.5 bolt in axels with me like Larry suggested? It would be greatly appreciated.

Moser keeps all the info.
Moser like to not deal with the general public on custom axles. ...They would prefer you to send in your axles if your doing it on your own. They have had many issues with customers give wrong measurements to Moser ...they build them ...then they do not fit. You will not get your money back. It is just safer to go through Brian or I to get the axles or send in your stock axles to Moser to be copied. and or upgraded to 30 spline.
Besides your going to get a better deal through us anyway? Why would you want to spend more...??? on your own.
