Mild 462, 850 Demon carb. Will be going with an MSD box that allows the use of a laptop to change timing curve etc. Looking for info on just what is necessary to add an Air/Fuel Ratio meter to the gauge package to facilitate carb jetting, tuning. I am running MT SS headers, which I assume will require a bung welded into one or both? Links appreciated, as always, thankyou for your replies.......Jim/Rott
I'd weld a bung to both header collectors so you can move the O2 sensor from one side to the other to see if the AF ratio is consistent. A difference between the two sides could indicate a vacuum leak or some other issue on that bank of cylinders. Just plug the unused bung. An AF meter with two sensor capability is more expensive and probably overkill for a carbureted or TBI system. Until I switched to a Holley Terminator system I was running an Innovate digital AF meter that could be downloaded to a PC. I sold it to a board member since the Holley displays the AF ratio.
I run an AEM afr gauge. Pretty simple to wire up, and I welded a bung into my reducer off the header collector. I didn't do one on each side, which would produce more accurate results, but just having one helped me dial my 950 Holley in really nice.
Kinda wish I had bunged up prior to hanging headers, but I can probably weld em in if I put the car on a lift. Any pics of bungs welded and bung location? I have to do a search for bungs, lol. I got this shirt from my wifes hometown, so I do have some prior bung experience. Jim/Rott
Haha, I want one!! (The shirt I mean, not another bunghole...) As far as location, the instructions that came with mine spelled it out pretty well. I didn't put mine in the header collector itself because I didn't want to tear up my pretty ceramic coating I paid for, so I put it in the reducer directly behind the header. I do recall the instructions said to place it in the upper half of the pipe (above the 3 and 9 o'clock positions) so any standing moisture wouldn't sit on it. If I make it out to the barn later I'll try to crawl under the car and snap a pic for ya.
I just used my Summit app to find AEM Products. They have 2 systems/guages. One is $180ish and is hardwired, perhaps the one you have, the second is much more expensive, and uses wifi to send info. Jim PS: I haven't been down to Salem in a while, so I'm due. What size are you?
Yeah Jim, I have the hardwired one. Here's the pic as promised. Mine is in about the 10:30 position. Wish I would've bought a stainless bung since the rest of the exhaust is, but oh well. And I'm an XL, if ya get that way let me know, I'd gladly pay ya for shirt! That's just too funny....

My son uses an Inovatine Two. It's portable & can record up to two hours of info. I'll usually turn it on in the pits & leave it alone until I want to analyze the results. Has a removable card you can install into the computer to analyze the results. I've used it a few times & gave good results/readings. Can be portable or hard wired.
I use an innovative version with the throttke position sensor.. That way you can datalog and see the air fuel ratio as well as the amount of throttle applied plus the RPM..
