Does anybody know of a good replacment Q-jet for a 69 430 motor, I'm not fond of POSTON, had a problem with him some time back,
The carb I have now on it is a 750 Holley vaccuum secondaires from out of the early 70's it still says made in U.S.A. on it. The problem with this carb to me is that it doesn't have the KICK that a Q-jet has, also when you start her up first thing in the morning she starts really ruff like as if she is running on three cylinders, until she warms up and then she purrs like a kitten. There is an electric choke on it and Iv'e moved that think back and forth with no real help. :Do No:
So I'm in the market to buy a Q-jet, any ideas?
    Thank you, Chip

Might try building it yourself. I was a diehard holley guy (back when I drove ford and chevys) and wouldn't touch a Qjunk. Got Doug Roe's book built a couple and now I love them. Unfortunately, most rebuild shops don't do everything you need to get one tuned 'right' So, you get a carb that runs better than what you had, maybe as good as original, but no where near as good as it could. Clint's dad had one built by a 'reputable' shop. Car still didn't run right. After replacing just about everything else, we rebuilt the carb, and did it right. Heck, the secondary cam was busted and they didn't even replace it. Anyways, the car runs GREAT now...

Let me know if I can answer any questions...

    Thanks for replying Jason,
When I first got the carb the throtle plate needed bushing. so I took it to a auto machine shop and they rebushed it for me, then I tore it apart and drilled it for the power valve, back fire, safety.
The carb looked good in side, no dirt, I rebuit it any way, the guy I got it from said he had it on his chevelle and it ran find, the carb only sat for about 6 months before he gave it to me from a swap for a carter 625.
But ever since I've had this carb on the car, it starts up like crap and nobody can give me any suggestions about it. So thats why I'm in the market for another carb, if I buy another carb I will be selling this holley cheap it's a 750 vaccuum seceondaires (4150 or 4175) I'll have to look at the carb for correct numbers.
I was looking at the Elderbrock Quad, do you know anything about them?
    Thank you for your time,
    Chip

Chip - my 2 cents: Buy here or go to ebay - buy a good core, then send it to John Osborne for a re-build. It will be cheaper in the the long run and run better then anything. If you are running a non stock 430, try to find an 800 cfm carb - 71 (I think) or later 455.
