Thats a mighty fine offer pal! That one you linked was a '014 with just shy of 15K really looked good. Pat asked why so little miles? I told her out there its around town and to get anywhere else was a 200 mile trip. She chuckled. I just wished that she werent so upside down with this toy thing in the garage right now. I fully expect that if youre ever out this way I can return the offer! At least seasonally, the BOATEL is open for business! ws
No worries, Bill, and someday maybe I'll take you up on that. The fella that owned that Impala actually owns one of the beer distributors here in town, and is the most anal person I've ever met in my life. Like to the point of being a raving lunatic about keeping his stuff clean. Any of his cars or toys (I used to be the service manager at Polaris/Victory/KTM dealer, and dealt with him for years on his stuff) would get washed. Every. Single. Day. So, that car probably never got driven in rain, snow, or if the wind was blowing too much. What's funny/not funny is one of his wife's eyes are cocked at about 15 degrees, and I bet it drives the old guy insane. Every. Single. Day.
So was his wife the case I heard about who was born with no eyelids? I heard they took some little boys foreskin and formed new eyelids for her and she's still a little cockeyed. WHEW. That puppy is KAH-LEEN! ws
TODAY HARBOR FRIGHT, Tomorrow the World! So I discovered a severed mounting tab on the dash bezel that Id like to repair. Its directly to the right of the clock and helps secure the assembly to the steel dash frame. Being 45 year old plastic thats pretty brittle, whats the consensus on the type of glue to use on the repair. I do have the broken piece. Model cement? Polyesther resin? HALPPPP ! ws
Made out at HF on Saturday. Bought a $.79 wire brush and got a Multi Meter for free. Its a throw away but I now have a dozen all over the place and they usually work. I had one battery die in about 3 years. Chinaman lost rice bowl on that deal! Went back in two times for a repeat. Was gonna contue cleaning rear end stuff from yesterday, but it looks like a snow blower day today instead. Did get the dash panel finished with the MOLOTOW chrome pen; looks good! The Type"O" rear end axle retaining studs tap out with a brass hammer. May as well do it now for cleaning and paint so it dont look half fast. Its 0820hrs right now and we've had at least 10 inches since 0400. Its still barrelling down. I can hardly see across a one lane driveway. Fun... ws
Just thinking about ol' John Codman suffering in Florida with that oppresive heat and humility. See whatcher missin' John??? ws
Ruff day moving 300 tons of snow... So Ian, I guess taking the snowmobiles out for a spin is out?? Sand buggies instead? ws
Bill: Yup. The Oceano/Pismo Dunes is like the one place in CA you can drive on the beach. I don't personally, but you can do ATV, Car, truck, whatever you want.
IAN... PM sent! Are ya in there??? Took Lukes advice and we went with a 2018 Impala. Im calling it the "409" for sentimental reasons. Heated seats, mirrors, and a friggin' steering wheel. No more CD players now. You have to burn a flash drive and plug it into the USB port. Theres also 115VAC outlets for stoopid stuff for kids in the back. The local dealer had it as a courtesy car with 2200 miles on it. Not a scratch on it! Pats over at the dealer right now taking an operators class. SHEESH!!! Thanks again Luke for that vote of confidence! ws
Nice car Bill! You and the Mrs. are gonna love the heated seats and steering wheel. I know I won't buy another DD without those two options, now that i'm totally spoiled by them. Good luck with the new ride!
Thanks guys; Pats lovin' it and even let me drive it home fro the dealer! Spoiled aint the word for it. I guess I finally did good! (Pat says I always do good, but this time I felt it too!) Stayed away from the 4 banger auto start thing... just too damn much funny business. This does hav a "hill start assist" tho; thats so on at a stop on a hill the brakes clamp and it wont roll backwards. Kinda like holding it on a clutch. has the 6 speed auto in it. Can I swap that one with the BAD LAD hahaha... ws
Good choice on the V6, Bill. The 4 cylinder does a decent job pulling them around, but the V6 is much better. I think you're going to love it, I'm not a Chevy guy whatsoever, but I do like the Impalas.
..does it have a spare tire? TBD tomorrow! Are you shooting me or for real? Nothing would surprise me any more LOL... FORDs arent the problem Luke, Ive owned many as new as a 1927 !! Its the cruddy service here. Could you trust a service manager named IGOR? Had the dorf (dogged on repair fraud) back several times for electronics issues. The last time (and STRAW) was when IGOR tossed the keys at Pat and in heavy rusky accent sez "I dont haf time for mekanics to make vaste of time on looking at ghosts. Car is done as far as ve go." Dahs Vedahnya! POOEY. That generated a letter from Pat to FOMOCO. ws
Oh, I know Bill. That's why I work where I do.....It's the best dealership in the state. People that know me can't believe I work where I do, but it's not the product, it's the people that matter. We work on all brands, and get stuff from Dodge and Ford in our shop even though the vehicles are still under warranty. The customers would rather pay us to work on them then have the Ford or Dodge dealers around here fix them for free. Crazy.
Finally had a little time for some cleaning and paint. Mine is all wire wheel cleaning (blasting would suck on ANY gearbox!). Douched it really well with 1/2 can of brakleen and got 2-3 coats of gloss black on it. The cover was to keep paint OUT and will clean up pretty easy. I want to paint that non OEM W-27 cover black and clean the cooling fin edges back to aluminum. Tis what it tis! Control arm bolts cleaned up pretty well. The lowers by the bottom shock mounts are questionable. Any race car guys have any replacements that they'd care to part with? These are 1/2" NC bolts with an integral washer under the head. If not are these available at Fastenal? AH/PO installed the rear U jouint u-bolts with one correct NC nut and one national fine nut on each bolt. Those U-bolts are harder than the nuts but a biotch to get off. Grabbed four new ones for that outa the bin and alls happy now. Gonna take advantage of the mid 30sF weather for a few days and get something done! Then its back to dash board assembly! Getting my Jones on! ws
AW HECK... I just dropped the $35.00 for a correct set of 6 of these from Inline Tube. Always hated the center AC vent with no side to side adjustment. The INCORRECT fresh air only vent next to the gage cluster is a perfect fit. Itll move air up and down and side to side. Fat boys need all the air they can get Hahhaha. MOLOTOW chrome pen to the rescue! Also starting to button up the Olds rear gear. May clean the fins off down to bare aluminum and may not. Havent decided yet. Maybe just paint the W27 red and white to match the theme on the XGS. ws
