Last night after I dropped my taillight housings off at a local powdercoater, I got to thinking about refurbishing my pulleys. Will I have any issues if I have my stock pulleys powdercoated?

    Thanks,

Should be ok as long as the belt grooves aren't coated.

I've been powdercoating pulleys for years, never worried about the belt groove, and never had any problems. The powder coating is no more slippery than a bare metal or painted belt groove, and as long as the belt is clean and tensioned properly it should never be an issue.

Consider also, tons of aftermarket pulleys are available powder coated as well, and they all coat the belt groove. Definitely a non-issue in my experience.

Thanks! I was concerned about exactly that. The powder in the pulley groove mucking up the belt in some manner. Either the slick surface allowing the belt to slip until it was worn off or glazing the belt surface.

You may have to carefully remove any powder coating from the ID of a power steering, alternator, or water pump pulley to get them to fit over their mating shaft OD. Some comprehensive powder coaters will plug those holes.

Excellent point, I forgot to mention that. When I've done some powdercoating myself(not much), I always use a nut/bolt to protect holes like that. But most of the time I have someone do it, and they're usually pretty good about it.
