I have a set of 15" Olds rallye wheels that Mcwheels made up for me. They are for a 69 Hurst olds(clone) project I am working on. The rims use the same chrome outer ring that the Buick rallye wheels do and they have an oldsmobile steel inner wheel which gets painted. Does anyone have any good way to mask off the outer chrome so that the inner wheel can be painted and clearcoated? There is like ZERO clearance to get way in there to tape. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Bob

Get a SHARP exacto #1 knife. Takes a little time and patience.

Call Fusick Olds and ask them who makes a masking template for SSI wheels.

When I have redone Buick wheels I don't mask anything. I carefully spray them, and then wipe the chrome down with either a thinner, or even chrome cleaner before the paint drys. Works like a charm and save hours.

I used thin green tape to outline the chrome then wider yellow tape to fill in. I used garbage bags to cover the rims.

I've done 3 or 4 set's myself and it's long and hard work. 'specially between the lug hole and the hub. I pick up Dremel tool pointed grinding wheels and wire wheels. They wear out after a lot of cleaning chucked up to my battery drill. I tape them off like Bug's Wheels. Take your time and they will look like new.

What's the correct black to use? Is it a special paint or just a gloss?
