I just spent quite a bit for this carb I am concerned about the base but have not much point of reference as to how far these go before NFG: Is this enough meat? Thanks Steve
As long as it's not corroded into a passage, or into one of the bores you're good. This one looks serviceable.
x2, agree with Adam. It's caused by not using the steel carb baseplate, or using a damaged one. You could fill the damaged area with a product such as Lab Metal, it's good to 350* F. http://www.alvinproducts.com/Product-Line/aT/View/ProductID/3/Lab-metal Even JB weld claims to be good to 550*F. https://www.jbweld.com/collections/epoxy-adhesives/products/j-b-weld-twin-tube
When I rebuild them & find this the bases are warped pretty badly. I take them to the machine shop & have them faced if nothing else to have the warp-age faced. Usually the most that has bee taken off is around .035". Tom T.
Got it, the thing is it's a rebuilt, I take it apart and I own it..I'll check it w a straightedge and a feeler gauge but it will go back,as I did not purchase this as a core Thanks for the input all
Hi Steve, For what its worth at this point I wouldnt be thrilled with this carb as a rebuilt. While its true the surface of the base may be flat enough to seal against the steel plate under it why roll the dice if you payed up for the rebuilt? Why not exchange it for a rebuild which started with a clean base? Also wondering why there is a hole in the plug in the base? Usually there is just a plug, no hole. While the steel plate might seal this off still seems like sloppy work to me. Just another opinion.... Tom
My thoughts too Tom Wont mention the name but is very well known in Riviera circle. Dealt with him for years, Spoke with him and he says it's checks out and if I don't like it even after putting gas in it and trying it out he will take it back. That works for me as well. If I get 5 years out of it I can have the bottom filled at that time.
