    Hi !

After buying the first Stage 1 which I call "The Hartford-frame", see topics: "The Hartford-frame" and also "1970 Buick mystery", I realized that it would be hard to find all the parts needed to restore The Hartford-frame since the entire drivetrain was missing, along with a lot of other parts.
I remembered the seller mentioning another Stage 1 sitting in a farm so I contacted him again to see if it was possible to buy it and use it as a parts-car. A deal was later struck and that other car is now in our garage. This is possibly a matching numbers 4-speed car in bad shape. I say possibly because I feel that the engine has been restamped, se pic. It is not gangstamped as some numbers are doublestamped and some not. This must have been done in the seventies or early eighties since it hasn´t been used in many years. I´m trying to determine whether it is the original block that has been decked and restamped, or if another block has been used. This is a 02c-car looking at the trimtag, but I can´t find any datecodes on the block to verify when it was cast. Are there no dates or am I looking in the wrong places ?
The heads are cast K 9 and K 13, but intake date is B 4. Does that make sense ?

I talk to the owner last fall was asking 5K for it buried in the ground. It has been there since the middle 80s.

A stamp over a stamp is NOT a huge deal...if everything else is date coded correctly. Can you post a pic of the “SS” stamp along with the 3 other numbers/ letters by that stamp? That would help...
I have seen quite a few cars/ parts that have been “overstamped”. I’m part of a Muncie transmission enthusiast group and there are hundreds of muncies that are stamped, blocked out, restamped, etc.... the history of the questioned transmissions are well known and are confirmed to be original, born with units...

Looks like the same car. I thought it was sitting in Rhode Island, but 20190909_065023.jpg
it was sold new in Avon west of Hartford.

George, there is no SS-stamp. That´s why I believe it has been decked. I can´t find any cast datecode on the block, shouldn´t there be one ?
Here is the stamp on the Muncie M21.

Would you believe it ! It´s 2 am over here in Sweden but I had to go to the garage and find out. This it what it looks like: S S with 292 underneath. I know it´s very secret, but would the 292 code be correct for this 02c-Stage 1 ?

That's exactly what my stage one engine looks like with the cylinder head off the head gasket covers the SS stamping. Mine is a March built car
