Well, I started a new "hobby" collecting and restoring valve covers, which I needed to do because the 5 other things I've got taking up all my time and money weren't enough ...anyway, so I'm on the lookout for any brand's V8 valve covers. Singles are alright, don't need to be sets. They don't need to be mint, small dings are ok, because they're just going to be wall hangers so I'll be doing some body filler on them anyway. The more interesting the better, and aftermarket or stock is great, but only after vintage parts. Not after things like Chinese chrome SBC covers. The ones I already have are: '63 Nailheads, 2 versions of "Power by Ford" 385 series, "Power by Ford" FE series, a couple versions of SBC and BBC, and I just picked up a factory set off a Chevy 409. PM me if you've got anything I might be interested in, really, really looking for the different versions Oldsmobile Rockets and a finned factory aluminum Thunderbird. Grassy-ass! Lucas
Hi Lucas,I have a few valve covers, most of them I don't know where they belong, all mostly aluminum. Also you stated only V8,what about GN valve covers?Bruno.
How about a nice original pair of BBC Cal Custom finned aluminum covers? I've had them on the shelf in the basement for years. When I get a chance I'll dig them out and take some pictures. I think I also have a pair of early 327 covers. Been a while since I've been into those boxes.
Those sound awesome Bill, and I'd love to have them, but I'm betting you're going to be (rightfully) out of my budget...I've still got those 5 other things I mentioned in the first post taking up money . Would love to see them if you've got spare time to take them out, though!
I have some banged up Buick 350 valve covers off my donor engine. Let me know if you’d like them. I’d send em for freight.
I'll get them out this weekend and post some pictures. I'll probably be surprised myself at what I have. I think I even have a pair of the early 303 Olds Rocket covers, too.
I might be interested for sure, depending on how banged up they are. On the more "common" stuff that guys might have like SBF, SBB, or SBC I'm probably going to be a little picky on because there's more to choose from. But I'd definitely be interested in seeing them. Thanks! Ooooh, I'd definitely like to see the Rockets, Bill! Would absolutely be interested in those. Just for a little reference on prices and such, here's some pics of a few that I have already before restoration: I got the Nailheads given to me, but gave the guy $15 for the pair. The FE Power By Ford covers I gave $35 for the pair with a couple dings in them, and the much rarer find 348/409 covers I got off eBay for $71 shipped, which was probably the best non-buddy price for a pair in the country. I've wanted to start doing this for a number of years, but just now really getting into it. If you do some searching on eBay, you'll see some guys asking $1,000-$5,000 for their covers....What I've got set aside to expand my small collection right now is about $300 plus or minus for just purchasing valve covers and another budget set aside for materials like filler/paint/clear/etc. So the question for me becomes do I buy 10 sets of $30 covers, or buy a couple really neat pairs for $150? That much I haven't decided, and it's a lot like when I buy a car: I never know what I'm going to get until I see it And here's an example of what's out there....might wanna go through your collections and see what you've got to sell to someone other than myself
Agreed. I could only afford the Plain Jane W head covers for now....but believe me, I looked at a few sets of those before reeling myself back in.
I was walking the junkyard one day and came across early hemi valve covers but decided I didn't need them.
I saw some early Red Ram hemi valve covers in a junkyard a while back. You should be able to find some of those.
I may have some early 60's Dodge Poly valve covers and others. I think there're gold in color. There're on a then running engine ( don't know cid size) that came with the dream house and shops that I bought back in 2011. Shops were a high end Mopar restoration place.
Yep, they're on eBay quite a bit, and a set of Hemis is definitely on the list. Just checking here with the forum guys first because I'd rather give people I know and trust my money rather than some random dude I don't know ...and some guys probably aren't like you and I Jim, and want to get the Mopar stuff out of their possession haha. Definitely be interested, Guy! I'll PM you here toward the end of the day when I get a chance, lunch time is over here right now
Sitting with the dog, drinking beer, having a smoke, watching roadkill, and swinging hammers at my new prizes. Little bro told me he's got a set of 455 covers I can have, so I'm going to pack those back in my suitcase from going up to Alaska to see the family for Christmas. So I've got that set covered now, too....
