Has anyone eliminated their A/C Muffler? Did you notice any extra noise or loss of cooling performance?
A lot of cars (like Chebys) don't have it. I noticed that the donor car I bought has one. I'll have to see if I keep it. It is between the battery and the fender, which is not a friendly place for a chunk of aluminum. that may be why the system is dry- it may have leaked.
I deleted mine, can't tell a bit if difference. If your compressor died and spread trash through the system, your better off losing the muffler since it's near possible to flush it clean.
How did you delete it? I'm setting up a new system. I have a new aftermarket condenser/drier. I had my evaporator reconditioned and I plan on using the aluminum compressor from the parts place.
I had new hoses made at a local a/c shop that does it. Just took them my old hoses and had them make up new ones with same length and new ends. I forget the cost, but it wasn't that expensive.
Hey guys I just joined the forum. noticed this thread and remembered a system I rebuilt for a 68 skylark which included the muffler. Here are a few pics I took
