I took my Scatpack to the track this past Friday. I can't say that it was easy to race at all. Maybe I'm just too used to the lack of technology, but my Buick is a lot more fun. In the Scatpack you've gotta go through 5 buttons to get the linelock to engage....Track-mode, Race Options, Line-lock, Start Line-lock, then finally brake and engage Line-lock....it's the only way to do a proper burnout. My Buick...left foot....right foot! Then launch control in the Scatpack wasn't a whole lot of fun either....I couldn't ever get it to work by the time the tree started flashing. Obviously if I practice a bit it will become muscle memory...but yeeesh...I left the track more frustrated than exhilarated. I ran 4 times....the 1st three I didn't even bother getting the time slip. On my second run I figured I'd turn off traction control and drive it like an old school...car wouldn't cooperate....then I forgot to turn traction control back on...light went green and I SMOKED the tires. My last run wasn't a total failure...so I got the time slip. 13.10 at 109mph. With slicks and proper driving skill I'm sure mid-low 12's are in it. That's bone stock...well mid muffler delete and drop in K&N air filter.

LOL I love coming on here and seeing pix of my neighbourhood beach (true!). And I DO love those Granges, Chris. I am daily-driving a VY SS LS1....... and a 2019 Harley now also. If I had to have a modern car,it would be the VF Series 2 SS Commodore, otherwise known to our American friends as the Chevrolet SS. But...nothing beats the 1960s/early 70s Buicks.

Unfortunately Buick is a shell of itself thanks to Chevrolet remember the 86 87 Grand national was quicker than a Corvette.

Got the freshened trans back from Extreme Automatics last Friday and had the trans back in and out for a test drive Saturday. Still drives and runs great, and the car has parts of my heart and soul in it after 20+ years of ownership BUT, work owns me for an average of 70 hours or more per week and likely will until (whenever) I retire. Every time I have to fix something with the car when I would like to be out enjoying a cruise frustrates me a bit more each time. This last time I wanted to go to the big cruise in Somerset KY but a trans with no second gear is not what you should drive 200 miles each way...

Anyway, I may put some for sale signs in the windows before the end of the year and who knows maybe I'll get a bite. If I was going to go buy something new today it would be a convertible Mustang GT with the 10sp automatic. That would require a chunk of change past anything I'd get for my car but it's within my budget. Seeing how slow cars like mine seem to sell I'm pretty sure I'll still be driving my GS for the foreseeable future though.

If I didn’t own my GS, I’d probably have a modern muscle car. Might even be a Hellcat Redeye.:)

Ours is just a 85 Lesabre coupe limited CE, But I keep telling people the local bank can not come up with enough money for some one to buy it.

I would not trade it for a whole train load of the New Ford Mustang 500 either. You can only use the power go fast in certien places. Yup you can burn out at the stop light but you will be at the next one when the Buick gets there.

I have my 16 Dodge 1500 to haul the little things and tow a trailer for the bigger stuff that won't fit in that grocery cart truck bed.

Kare has her 15 Journey when we want to pack up and go on a sight seeing trip where we will stay over night.
She would make me sleep in the Buick if we took it, to guard the hood emblem.

The old ad is still true. Buick isn't your grandfathers car.

Remind me not to go on a business venture with you! LOL That train load of GT500s would get you every 85 LeSabre in the world!

Dodge really fell down on the Redeye hood layout. The Demon hood is right on the money.

Way I see it our LeSabre is price less and one Mustang is like any other and by the time it is of collectors value I will be dead and gone.
Possiablbly not even a memory any one could remember.

  14. A new Honda Accord SE is faster than a factory 70 LS 6 Chevelle was off the showroom floor.

  15. The title of the post is dumping old iron for modern muscle. My comment was simply pointing out how far cars have come. No matter how you word it the four-door v6 Honda Accord is now a better performer than what some consider the baddest muscle car of 1970

An older red Viper roadster is still on my bucket list. I drove a 450 hp coupe many years ago, and for the time, the performance was breathtaking.

All true and just the way it is. So Many SUVs are faster today than most 50 year old muscle cars. It’s just the way it is. Who can say what the next 50 will bring? Safe to say most here will not be here or even care. Just have fun with what you have or want to get and just make it happen.

It irritates me that they hype that Kia Stinger up so much. When they 1st came out they claimed it was faster than the Mustang GT in the 1/4 mile....just a flat out lie. I don't understand why they would compare a 4 door sedan to a pony car. It should be compared to the Ford Taurus SHO, Camry, Accord V6, etc... Then in the pic of the link they show a Hellcat...not an R/T. Just a ridiculous comparison. Let's compare the VW Golf to a Dodge Durango for towing capacity or a Mazda Miata to a Toyota Camry for luggage space....just dumb.

2018 Kia Stinger GT Vs. 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T

4.7 seconds 0-60 Acceleration Time (lower is better) - 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T 5.1 seconds
4/36.4 inches Doors/rear leg room (higher is better) - 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T 2/33.1 inches
21 miles per gallon Combined MPG (higher is better) - 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T 18 miles per gallon
40.9 cubic feet Maximum interior cargo space - 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T 16.2 cubic feet
    5 years/60,000 miles Bumper-to-bumper warranty - 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T 3 years/36,000 miles

Sure modern cars are way more efficient as in making power and getting it to the ground. Technology does that. Comparing it to a stock LS6, sure the Honda out performs it, but what old musclecar is stock? Not many. Pretty sure your average 70 LS6 today would get down the 1/4 faster. Older cars were overdesigned as well. Wonder what would happen if you hot lapped the Chevy and Accord at the track, with sticky tires. Which one do you think would break first?

Another thing, every time I see someone quote magazine performance statistics, I tell them the same thing, "your car doesn't run that until you take it to the track and show me a time slip":)
