Anyone ever see a Muncie transmission stamped like this?

Something looks a little fishy to me. Anyone ever see this before? The correct vin # is stamped on housing just not in the stated location as listed by the numbers book.

Yes, I have seen it several times. Here are two pics I have, and I think I have more on older computers but can't access them anymore.

January 28, 1971 M-21, but it appears to have been stamped over the top of a VIN, which is usually stamped on the top. Interesting. I've never seen one like that.

I thought the vehicle Vin# was stamped at the motor company factory and Muncie build date was stamped at transmission assembly plant. Just thought it looked strange, like the build date was stamped after the Vin# was X'd out. Any thoughts?

Muncie stamps could be almost anything it seems. No rhyme or reason. The original from my car.

The one in Duane's numbers book is of my transmission. It was stamped incorrectly, X'd out and restamped. It doesn't seem to be that unusual.

I agree Ken. I have seen several that have been X’ed out and re-stamped, and a few that have been only stamped once.

I think some of the guys did this on purpose, so we would have something to talk about 50 years later.

Maybe if Buick produced more "4-speed" cars the assembly line workers would have been better at this.:D:D:D

Looks like I found the transmission built a day after mine. I know Ken's was a day apart. Not sure if before or after.
Anyone know how the factory ordered or stocked parts like this?
