Hey Briz... $100 and a new Junkflite? Youll be good to terrorize the town. (Needs a rebel flag in the back window)! Tailgate with it? ws

I love it. we used to have a 76 club cab with a 318. Got great mileage. When it dropped a rod my Dad replaced it with a 360. Not so great. 9 MGP (Canadian)

Nice truck, I like those. But those cheap hubcaps have got to go.

The trans you can rebuild yourself if you are not in a hurry.

Ya. Theres a nice tail gate on on it. Just so much debries in the seam I couldnt close it.
I would really hope a rebuilt TF wouldn't cost a grand.
LOL. I commented to the lady how "nice" those caps were and she said that they really jazzed the old truck up when she put hem on there. Seemed pleased that I made like I thought they were cool. I have no idea how to build a trans.

I’m partial to the older power wagons but that would be cool to bomb around in to chase parts

I have no idea how to build a trans.

First thing you do is grab the goggles, then you pull the drive shaft out, being careful not to drop the front splined yoke on the concrete...

Really Briz? With everything else you can do??? Its really no more than a pump, some clutch packs and a few planetary gear sets. Get a dodge book. Step by step with a big bench for "elbow room". Diagnosis comes first. Oil Level, pressures, then the pan for a plugged screen and wing it from there... ws

If a dope like me can do one, you can too. Just need a good reference book (How to rebuild the Torqueflite trans), a caliper and a dial indicator. Rest of tools you probably have.

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

Agreed, rebuilt kits are cheap, and what's the worst that can happen? You screw it up and have to buy a rebuilt one anyway. But I know you could do it, Steve. I used to think Type F had magic in it that made them work, but they're really simple if you don't think about the valve body and such, and just take them as individual mechanical parts.

I always allow for very low mechanical aptitude by the previous owner.
I once bought a whole super solid 72 Skylark with a “bad transmission “ for $150 dollars ($75 for the fender I needed for my Stage & $75 for the door is how I justified my offer).
Folks finally accepted one Friday after payday.
Just for fun my buddy and I took a air tank, battery, points file & jug of gas but had low expectations (car was covered with leaves partways up the windshield) but were curious if the motor ran.
Well, we got the motor going (should have seen the leaf storm!) & the sellers who kept checking on our antics weren’t super impressed (“Yeh, the motor was fine but will do you no good without the transmission!”).
Let it all warm up anyway and scraped the windshield off then I told my buddy I was going to see how torched smelly & dark the trans fluid was. There was ZERO fluid on the stick but probably drained out while sitting up.
I gave my buddy money to hit the corner gas station while I policed up all our tools and any trash.
We filled the trans & crossed our fingers sarcastically and dropped it into reverse “THUNK!” (Dude we have reverse!) then into drive and (THUNK!) told my buddy to get into his car quickly before the people came out again and follow me incase it gave out.
So I am DRIVING this car out of its ruts and here come the sellers flinging open the screen door “ Hey! how are you doing that? The transmission is bad!”
I had the window down to see through the murky windows and just yelled up to their stoop “I don’t want to pay for a tow this far out so getting it at least a little closer to home before the trans gives out again! Thanks again!”
I owned that car for 10 more years & the trans never did give out but boy did that motor go through oil (self changing oiling system I called it! Lol).

Always check the stupid “No way!” Stuff first: )

I'll try to get it home today or tomorrow. Of course I'll check out all the common stuff first. The LeSabre I got a few weeks ago, seller said the trans was bad. Its been moving under its own power up n down the road just fine. I put 4 qts of fluid in it.

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

Ive done a few of those old dodge trans were the TV linkage gets jammed at full throttle. That keeps it in first unless you rev the hell out of it.

This has the smell of a Jeff deal... My Pals old EXPLODER dies (1998). I found him a dozen new (2008+) ones to look at. His brothers (ones a burnout 55 y.o. Ford mech, the other is a municipal mechanic in town here) all blew off the ones I found and instead bought one (2008) that this OLD bag friend of theirs suggested. She's 80, and saw in on FB for 3800.00. Must be perfect right??? All 4 corners are "creased" and it has a replacement "used" motor in it already.

So Jeff has a thing for this bag; a mom complex?? He buys this POS and gets it home and the trans is now going into reverse "slowly". I told him to dump it, "But I dont want to hurt Sandy's feelings". So it goes to the local trans shop. The shop says anywhere up to FIVE GRAND for an overhaul. Says the pressures are bad and it needs "synchros". WHAT???? (Its an auto with OD). He pays the guy 50.00 for some diagnostics.

So now I hurt his feelings about Sandys feelings. DUMP IT... Those things are nothing but bad news. This is AT LEAST the 15th one Ive heard of that went south. Thats all his family drives and says the only problem, was his dads rusting out the dipstick tube and filling with water. Another 5000.00 job for an oil change.

Aside from that, these knuckleheads have a half dozen exploders stuck behind the barn up north for "parts". I told him to go lay in the mud and pull that gear box outa that 1978 and see if it "might" fit. I tried to explain whats inside but Im the dummy. Told him about the digital bullshit telling the ECM what to do and the TPS end of it putting the trans into limp mode. I think its telling the ECM that its running at say 2500 rpm and to go into reverse slowly to NOT BLOW UP THE TRANS.

When someone asks me a question at least listen. This guys' gonna charge jeff the 5K PLUS shop equipment.. a dab of grease, some hand cleaner, and paper towels. So when I took Jeff to pick it up yesterday, he told the guy he couldnt afford it. So now the shop says "They can get it to work" for 2500 but only a one year warranty instead of 3. Or 500 with no warranty. Im the asshole, but I dont smell like bad fish.. ws

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

after the army '73 my dad and another guy had a used car lot in bennington,vt . the other guy was a big mopar guy . we'd go wholesaling , look at a mopar with crappy shift . he'd take it back , fluid n filter change - good .
    I've had my 54K '84 D150 360 727 for a few summers now . edelbrock intake , hookers n duals . useful , fun .
there's a couple decent facebook "groups" for the '73-'92 range rams . some useful info , some nice trucks .
