I found this article in a magazine that Jimmy saved with his Motion info. It is from the "Speed and Supercar Magazine April 70 issue. The car was done over by Ron Pellegrini. It is an interesting write up of a car that might have been introduced into regular production in Mid 1970 but was not meant to be. We all know what they actually introduced in mid 70, but this article gives a little insight as to what they were thinking about at the time. Enjoy. Duane
Pretty cool. One observation- even when brand new, the gap between the hood and grill surround was pretty big
How cool would it be to find that car today!?! It was probably crushed and sent to that great scrapyard in the sky!
Ive always wondered what would have happened if buick was quicker to the punch and offered the stage 2 package as a factory option in 70. The muscle car world would be much different.
Joe, They were working on just that, but when Corporate GM announced the decision to decrease the compression ratios for the 71 engines, the Stage 2 Package was scrubbed. The Buick engineers had all they could do to re-vamp the engines in time for the 71 model year. Denny Manner has said the above quite a few times. It would have been something though. Duane
The Hemi 4 valve W-43Olds and OHC Hemi Chevy would have been tough to mess with as would the Pontiac Ram air V the Olds W-43 was really close to making production for the 72 model year
Years ago in some of the '69 paperwork I collected was that first picture of the car showing off the hood - I even posted it here for discussion. I'll have to dig it out ..
