Are 70 GS 8.2 Peglegs worth upgrading?

I have a mild 350 in my 70 GS. It has a stock pegleg (with unknown gear ratio)

Is it worth investing in a posi unit for this car? The car does spin its tire, so posi would be nice.

However, are there affordable gears sets available for this unit? 3:31 or 3:42 for example.

There are some gently used Auburn posi units on my local CL and I am thinking of pulling the trigger if it makes sense.

beware. that 70 8.2" buick is an oddball rear.

posi units and gears that will fit it are hard to come by. and generally cost a bit.

IF you can get a used posi and gears in good shape that you know will fit, then I don't see why not to upgrade.

it might get spendy to go with new parts in that rear.

After doing some research on the Auburn website and Summit, I don't think the posi's listed will work.

Contact Monzaz here on the board. He built my rear, Larry "the Wizard's" rear, and many more. He also sells parts and his prices are very competitive. But you also get personalized service from a VERY knowledgeable and friendly guy to boot.

I'd PM him through the board, but his website it www.jdrace.com

    David,
The problem is that there was a BOP 8.2 10 bolt that came in 1964-67 Buicks. Part for those rears are abundant and reasonably priced. The 68-70 Buick 8.2 10 bolt is not the same, and mass confusion even from suppliers is common. I second contacting Jim (Monzaz here on V8). He is right here on the board, and here is his website, www.jdrace.com He can modify a posi unit for that 70 8.2 unit. The Fabcraft gears are the only ones available new, so if you decide to build your rear, I suggest you buy the ones Ken linked for you. I believe Fabcraft also made 3.64's as well. In any case, it will be a more expensive rear to build. That is why I swapped out for a 1971-2 8.5 10 bolt rear. Good strong rear with great parts availability.

10-4 Larry. I have contacted Monzaz for a quote on a fresh 8.5 posi. Very affordable. I hate freight and am trying to learn by doing.

Fabcraft makes 3:42 and 3:64 gears. They also offer Auburn posi units, but I use Eaton clutch style units or TruTrac units. It's not hard to do.
