My question is in regard to the finish of the bolts used to attach the door hinges to the A pillar and door; screws used to attach the door latch to the door; deck lid to hinge bolts, deck lid latch to deck lid and the deck lid striker to the trunk bracket:
Were these bolts painted to body color or were they the manufacturer's finish (grey phosphate, black oxide, etc)??
Thanks to you well known authorities.

...which means all of that stuff was installed prior to paint. Doors and trunk lid with all latches, and all of the hardware to hold them and the latches on.

I agree, functional doors and trunk lid before the car was painted. This means the door latch striker bolts in the door jamb of the body are also painted body-color.

How was the door jam latch not painted ? was a piece of something used to cover latch ? I think now painters use a brush to paint them screws now when installed after the car is painted.

The doors and trunk lid were attached and aligned to the body shell before Fisher Body painted it. All the associated hardware would have been painted as well.

The front end sheet metal was installed at final assembly. That is an entirely different animal.

When I worked at the Framingham plant in 1972, that is how it was done.
