    hi all,
my first time on here so hope i get it right. i have a 1964 buick skylark that has a st300 with switch pitch super turbine 300 trans that is giving me problems. i am thinking instead of rebuilding the trans i may swap it out for a more conventional trans.ie powerglide,th350. can any one tell me what is best to bolt up to the 300 cu in buick engine without to many changes.

To add to thread,i have taken the rochester 4 jet carb off as it continues to flood even with a kit so sick of it and fitted new 600 holley which i will jet down slightly to 62 main jets. anyway, have connected up the dash pot and switch pitch control on throttle but trans has got horrendus leak and not shifting well so trans needs rebuild.parts hard to get in nz so easier to go with th350 and get shiftkit fitted to eliminate kick down
    many thanks paul

Paul--we moved your thread to a better section and improved your title.

  3. With the exception of the kickdown cable the turbo 350 will be a direct bolt in for the super turbine 300. You don't have to move the crossmember or replace the flexplate. any non lock up (metric) BOP turbo 350 will be fine. You may have to get a bracket or linkage kit for the kickdown cable

Yes, a TH 350 from Buick Olds or Pontiac will fit right and extra gear helps. Get a good converter and enjoy.

The 350 (3speed) isn’t a power glide(2speed) . The issue is making the downshift cable work. Attaching it to the carb may be easiest. Check your intake to see if it can clear. Here’s a pic of a 350 engine with carb stud on bottom for cable as you can see in picture.

Your carb problem may not be a carb problem, you may have dirt in you fuel tank that keeps getting in your needle valve. A 200R4 will also bolt in, but, that is an overdrive trans that may require a rear end gear ratio change. I guess, being in New Zealand, you need to use whatever is most readily available. I don't consider the TH350 to be a better trans then an ST300 because you will give up the switch pitch function, but, they only made the ST300 for 4 years and the TH350 for probably 15.

Opps, didn't see that. Maybe your float has a hole in it. Try shaking it to hear if thee's fuel in it.

65 Skylark. Transmission will not work. Cost to fix $4,500. I do have a parts cars with a transmission. No idea if any good.
I am not a purest, just want to enjoy cruzing about in my 65 convertible.

Have you checked the fluid level? Does the car move? Tell us exactly what is happening. Maybe the transmission isn't done.

The OP was from New Zealand. Not sure where skybeatle lives. That might be why they quoted him that figure.
