Auction Very seldom due the great cars end up at auction. Record auction prices very seldom reflect the value of a great car. EXAMPLE, the most money paid at auction for an LS6 chevelle convert is about 175k with fees but there have been private sales in excess of 325k, HEMI cuda hardtop at 200k at last years auction was a record for auction there have been private sales in excess of 400k. Auctions are still primarly used to get rid of cars that have problems, ie non numbers, condition, or trying to recoup on a poor investment. Now there are exceptions but very rarley. The guy who pays record price at auction very seldom if ever got the best car. What ever the X brings at Barrett I believe a 4spd numbers match car with good paper work in the same condition will do 2-3 times what a non numbers non stage will do. I also believe the guy who pays the most money for a buick is probably not a buick guy, just my 2 cents
I hear you on that one, and what about Don Johnson's cuda from his movie that he sold, can you believe how much that guy paid for that car, and it wasnt even a hemi.
auction The most amazing part about Barrett is the number of 60 year old guys with 30 year old women and the guys with a 500k line of credit standing in line for an hour for there free bidders drink, you would think they would just go to the line where you pay for your own NO WAITING but NOOOOOOOOOO
500K is small spuds! The guy checking in on one side of me had a 2 million line in place. The guy on the other side of me had bought several million dollars worth of cars during past BJ auctions.
No bargain here, please. The GSX is scheduled to be auctioned on Friday 1/28/05. Personally, if I were the owner of this car I would drive it into a river before I would sell it for less than $90,000.00. Imagine investing all the time, money & love into a rare car like this and then selling it to some bottom-feeding, bargain hunter for peanuts. I wish the owner all the luck in the world. That is one nice, classic, hot rod.
Yes as I posted above 300pm MST which 5pm EST. MArk tells me BJ estimates he we be up if they are on scedule at 2:30 pm which I presume is MST. So the GSX sale will not be on the tube if my understanding is correct.
I have been to BJ more times than I can remember, only because I am lucky enough to live in Phoenix. If it were a #s matching car I believe it would make it to a prime time TV slot. BJ gets a % of the sale. They try to sell for the most $$ too. The camera has been known to make bidders open their wallets more. Lot #s are not by chance. They sell "crap" there too. I will never brag about my car, except maybe when I see one at BJ that is not done well. Some of the stuff you do not see on TV would surprise you. My opinion is BJ has been trying to boost Buick's value for some time now. Maybe this is the year? If I was selling I think I would have a reserve, we are still in somewhat uncharted waters. Good luck!! I'll be there, probably Friday PM just my .02 John in AZ
I had already planned on being there Friday because Saturday is such a nut house  Now I'll have to look for the car and see if I can get in the tent when it hits the stage and shoot some video!
So what did Mark's GSX sell for??????? I was checking in on the show every once in a while and saw many muscle cars sold but no GSX!!!!!
I'll make notes of some of the interetsing cars selling prices. I don't know if I'll get a place, but I'm going to try and video the GSX when it hits the platform Craig
