What is the legal mufflers of choice
I've read about folks using the Dynomax ULtra Flows ,but not sure if a welded style muffler is legal due to appearance ??
    Thanks in advance

Well, I'm not an expert on FAST but, their rule on mufflers says:

4.04 Mufflers must be stock looking in design.
No welded mufflers allowed. Maximum muffler inlet and outlet is 2.5”.

This would probably allow the Walker Super Turbos which are reputed to be very good flowing and they sound good too. They are not seamless mufflers and appear kind of like stock muffs.

Magna Flow mufflers have worked well for me. Straight thru design look stock and not to loud.

Walker 17749 is a stock looking long case and is very hard to beat for flow.

Jim Hand did a muffler test that proved out the flow of the Walkers...interesting read. I have the Walkers on all my stuff and like them very much. In fact, they might almost be too quiet, I have the short case on my Pontiac and like that sound the best, but don't think they flow quite as well.

Is the "no welded mufflers" rule enforced ?

I think it was originally meant to keep people from running crappy sounding Blow Masters, but I could be wrong?

Same muffs I have on my GS and I like them very much for flow and good sound. The GSCA did a muffler test many years ago and the 17749 out-flowed all the other muffs tested.

the muffler rule is under review for 2016, and I believe it will be amended to allow welded mufflers........

in fact, I have enough confidence to say "Welded Mufflers will be allowed"

I couldnt tell you, but it is a reprint from Pontiac Enthusiast magazine, which has been out of print for quite a while. I think the book came out in about 2004, so they're probably from around the same time.. is the exhaust/muffler information the same from both sources?

When it went out of print I sold my copy because people were offering lots of money for them. From memory, the lists don't look the same. I'm fairly certain the Goerlich Xcelerators turned out the best in the book. Which is why I purchased those for my Firebird coupe from Ram Air Restorations. But a later date and completely different set of mufflers could lead to very different results.

Goerlich has been bought out by AP Exhaust Technologies.
    Same mufflers still available.
I have the Xcelerators on my car, also.
