So, I need to replace my old BFGs that I have on a 14x6 rally. Going with a 15x7" rallye now. The question is which brand of tire? White letters in or out? Im leaning towards letters in right now. I'd like to here your thoughts!

Here's what I have now; BFG RADIAL T/A with white letters out 235/70R14, which are no longer made. You can only get 225/70R14. Either way, I'm getting 15x7 rally's.

I will be going through the same situation when replacing my 16 year old (new looking) BFG's.

The FireStone lettering is too big for my taste, FWIW. Tough question on the letters in or out....

I was kicking around dropping the coin for radial redlines but I don't know how they would look with a yellow car. They would look good on your black car...

A quick photo shop to remove the RWL on your current tires....:Brow:

BFGs or Coopers, letters out. Your 'stepchild' looks great, but I'm curious about the '69 style top. What's the story if I may politely ask?

    '68 grille in a '69 car?

My personal preference is black letters out. I spent so much time getting the blue soap off those white letters (BFG T/A radials) that I will never, repeat, never buy any sort of whitewall/letter on a tire. :spank:

It's a '68, vent windows, round rear marker lights, lower fender trim.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

Where are you getting the Firehawk radials. I've looked for them. I have my sights on the cooper cobra. I'm going with a pair of 255/60-15 for the rear on my regal.

Car looks great. I love me some 68GS.

I love the look of redlined. Love, love, love..... But not too excited about the cost and I'm considering 255/60s on the back. Diamondback Classics makes redlines that big for $270 a piece... Ouch.

Wow, thank you!!! A subtle difference, I think I like no white letters.

Yep, it's a 68 as far as I can tell. Although the motor is a 1971.

I love my Cooper Cobras. They ride and handle better than the BFG's they replaced. Letters in is my preference, I even use black paint to hide them. That is a decision no when else can make for you Matt, your choice. If you get the Coopers, take note that they are a 44 psi tire. I run them at 39 psi. They ride great.

I just did an online search for a Firehawk 255/60r15...... Not seeing them available. I'm glad you asked the question. I may go Coooper or BFG due to easy availability.

Thanks Patrick! Are you talking about the grain of the vinyl top?

Thanks Larry, I'm about 90% committed to letters in with this black car. I've heard a lot of good reviews for BFG and Cooper. Firehawk too, but availability and sizes seem limited with the Firehawk.

I'm thinking 255/60 on the back. Not sure about the front yet, maybe 215/70. Do you think it would look odd with 15" back and 14" front? I have enough rims now to do anything. I thought it would be nice to keep the tire height the same so if i get a flat, one spare would cover any wheel. I know some guys like a little taller tire in the back. The pic I posted has all 235/70/14, which from a height standpoint looks fine to me. I just want to do this right one time and I don't want it to look like a high school kid assembled it.

By the way, purchased my Yukon limited slip and master bearing kit from Monzaz. Super fast shipping. I helped install it 2 days ago. Great experience. now if it would only quit raining here, I could take the car out.

Matt, not the grain, the trim. The '68s have a forward 'point' under the quarter glass, kinda like muttonchop sideburns. '69 is like yours--the trim follows the line from raingutter down, kinda like a mullet.

Ok, I see. Here's a different angle. I purchased the car this way and don't have the history on it.

Letters in or out is always a tough decision to make on cars with higher profile tires.
When I have come across this I have one tire mounted opposite of what's on the car, lower it and make a decision.

Your car is black and will look great either way you go. Even the red lines would work with the GS badges.
IMO cars like Tom's look better with the letters out because it works with his top whereas if you take my car for example
it would not look good with the letters out.

Coopers. I love mine. I run them at 35 psi. After seeing Larrys post, I'll bump them up to 39 and see if it rides any better or worse.

Yeah, I missed the other cues on it being a '68! If I had to guess, I'd say that someone added the vinyl top later and used the '69 trim. There's a lot less of it, so if I had done something like that I would have gone the less expensive route. Was the car originally without a vinyl top? Sorry, I'm getting off topic. Looks nice, anyway!
