Well.....i have one out of a 69 GS 400 has the 400 turbo yolk on it and it is rubber injected...and the car was original and untouched...sooo...unless im mistaken.. and i have been.. they are rubber too...it was a column shift 400 400 turbo with 3.23 posi and a/c i will work on pics....maybe im mistaken....ive got about 30 drive shafts, and i did part a 69 GS California out in the same week...

Gary..NOT I.....in all the years of parting 64-73 Buicks I've never seen a rubber injected anything on a Buick GS/Skylark driveshaft. IN fact, this 68 GS still sports the original numbers matching T400 trans, and the one piece driveshaft is all steel..!! Wheelz, Tampa Bay

HEres pics...i sold the 400 BA trans to Michael Evans and the rear to Jim Hirt...and the air cleaner to somone here on the board. I took this car apart, i saved it from the crusher, it sat in a chiken shed for 25 years and was rusty to the door handles....and the plates where 1978..so it was nevewr touched it had discs too...anyway you can see the big yolk, and the plastic is still in the u-joints so its never been modified....AND it 2 piece and 55 1/8 center to center on the u joints...i know its right, i took it myself, so i dont know whats what, but i understood/learned that sticks had solid and autos where like this, i parted a 70 GS 455 auto and it had the same drivesaft in it...maybe it was plant or supplier i dunno..but its like the 4th or 5th 400 turbo ones ivef had that where 2 piece...mark... I know it doesnt matter, but it had 49,xxx miles and i found and still have the build sheet......

If you look at Marxjunk's pics, you'll see on the side shot of that shaft, where it tapers down, it's still solid. Mine at that taper point is where you see the rubber. Must be a two pieve shaft or something. It's the original shaft too. Built in Canada. My car is an auto.

Edit - I think the rubber injection is not where I mentioned above, but just before the U Joint where the step-down is. Either way, mine has the rubber.

Could it be a '69 only related part? or Canadian built cars? :Do No: Wheelz, Tampa bay

    on.
    my.
    face.

...All those Buicks, all these years and I never had one!

Ya see....This 68 GS 400 I am parting out. well, it has.

yea..., as hard as it is for me to admit..it has, um, well, yes, a two piece driveshaft... When I saw the pix posted, I crawled under this car, and looked for that indicator of a two-piece...and I didnt see it....so I assumed it wasnt one.
I just removed this ORIGINAL driveshaft from this 68 GS 400, AUTOMATIC..and low-n behold..there it is..way back at the tail end, where it was hiding twixt the two rusted out Walker mufflers where I didnt see it...two piece driveshaft.
so guys.., egg. on. my. face.
RANDY....this driveshaft has surface rust gunky, but I'm certain will clean up nicely..and the best part is..the YOKE is AWESOME! No wear marks, no gouges no rings....ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

and you have a PM Randy. Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Wheelz stuff happens...i wouldnt sweat it, its still a good piece the yolk brings 100 bux all day long around here...unless its on the floor and out of the car its easy not to see the joint....

Randy...why wouldnt you just go to a driveshaft place and have a solid one made if the rubber bothers you? Have ya tried or are they out of sight on price? I had one made a few years ago at a 4 wheel drive specialty place gave them ny demensions and it was actually really cheap i just wanted stock stuff and gave them my yolk...so i didnt listen to them about hardened this and blah blah that and it was under 200 bux, if i would have listened to them it would have been close to 500..

I have a drive shaft out of a 68 GTO 400 turbo 8.2 it has no rubber,i wll compare the length...i just remembered i have it, i walked past it this morning....i will let ya know

Heres pics of the infamous 69 rubber driveshaft and a 68 GTO side by side, the shaft is the identicle length and is a 1 piece..the difference is in the YOLK..i've never noticed the diff between pontiac and buick..pontiac has a chevy style yolk, so buick caddy and olds uses the same style yolk..hmmm..i took RUNNING DRIVING ruff GTO apart for the frame and other stuff, so at least you have options now a GTO shaft and a buick YOLK make it work and it gets rid of the rubber and probably cheaper than a buick 4 speed shaft too...theres a lot of 68-72 400 turbo PONTIACS out there...

Mark- in a previous post, the statement that auto's have a 2 piece and manual cars are solid is TRUE. I have 2 stick 69's and a spare 69 stick shaft and they are all 1 piece.

Ohio- I WILL get you a measurement! :Dou: :beers2:

i would think stick tranny shafts are longer, a muncie and the bellhousing are the same length as a 350 turbo, a 400 turbo is a few inches longer...
