This is board memeber Matt Hanlins(Mattnena1) freshly painted 71. When he told me his plans of blacking out(as in everything is black) his sharp looking self painted blue 71 I was kind of iffy about it. Well let's just say it was a huge hit at an area show today. My car was getting plenty of looks till he showed up and stole my glory. And I'll proudly give him props for the way it turned out allthough he didn't paint it himself this time. :TU:

The number plate on the front has a very special meaning to him and I'll let him tell the story if he cares to. But it is very personal to him.

I really like the look the painted bumpers give the car. It the last image, the black one actually looks smaller than its neighbor.

That's the same thing I did to the Skylark I recently sold. I had to do a double take. The new owner said he planned to turn it into a GS clone. It looks great not everyones cup of tea, but in my opinion you can't go wrong with well done black paint.

I forgot to add, That's a brand spankin new repro grille in there and when Matt and I were leaving the show, While he was accelerating away at a brisk pace. A big bird decided he'd had enough of life and flew right into Matts grille. That's right all you PETA types out there. My buddy Matt is a BIRD KILLER.

Hey Guys. Great pics Dave! First off I wanna say Im glad to be back on the forum after a long time in hiding. Thanks for the comments guys. I know the all black makes some Buick nuts wanna puke, but I couldnt be happier how it turned out. As far as the bird strike goes...my grille is fine but the bird did not make it. I pulled over and did everthing I could for the little fella. He just didnt have the will to survive!
The 6518 license plate on the front of my car is the ID number of my partner Detective David White. I am a detective here in Clay County Fl. On February 16 we were investigating a meth lab. Long story short, when we approached the front door and was attempting to get inside the residence. A low life scumbag inside the house opened fire on us, killing my partner Detective David White and strikiing me in the left arm. I underwent surgery to repair my brachial artery, which was severed by the bullet. Unfortantely Det. White was struck in the head and did not make it. He was a very close friend and father of two young children. The same day this happened we had earlier stopped by the paint shop to take a look at the Buick which had just came out of the booth. David was in awe at how good it looked as was I. I just felt it was a proper thing to have on the front as kind of my tribute to a great friend that I have worked by for the past decade.

Did he have to powder coat all the metal David?

    Dave,
Yes I had a powder coating done on the bumpers and all trim. It turned out really well. you cant tell the difference between the powder coat and paint. The bumpers were in pretty poor shape but he was able to fill them in really nicely with the powder. Plus it was a lot cheaper than re-chroming.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

Car looks great and thats a cool tribute to your partner. :TU:

I cant tell but it looks like you did not put wheel well trim or the rocker molding on the car. Just a thought if you did them in black also and put a red stripe on the rocker molding it would pull in the GS emblems also it would be bad ass to put a set of red line tires on it to pull it all together.

Nice looking and I like the fact it cost less then a rechrome job on the bumpers

Very well put Matt.:TU: Guys, When this happened I was listening to the news as it came across that afternoon/evening and Knowing Matts line of work I was already hoping and praying that it wasn't him or any of his buddys and coworkers that I had met. When they announced the names of the officer killed(who I had met) and Matts later that night. My heart sank.

I wasn't sure what or even if I should post about it so I never did. I'll say that I'm proud to have Matt as a friend and I'm glad that he survived and saddened that his partner and friend did not. Matt is good people.

R.I.P. Detective David White. He gave his life for the rest of us by trying to rid this earth of scum.

I'm a "stock looking" kinda guy but I gotta say the blacked out look is sharp!
I love the fact that you kept the Buick rally wheels. :TU:
In my opinion, a great ratio of "old car" with some modern updates

That is tragic about about your partner ...sad
His number on the front plate is a very nice touch
