    Bummer.

I don't know what you mean.

First Guess: You don't need a new distributor, you need to pull this one part-way out because you're one tooth off. Once you get the housing re-aligned, you won't have vacuum advance clearance problems.

    Remove WHAT?

2 1/2 gallons plus what's trapped in the block? Doesn't seem that shy on capacity to me. What thermostat is in it now?

Most of the time when I have used an heI in a bbb I put the vac canister pointING towards the radiator cap. This is also where I put #1. This will put the wiring plugs pointing the tstat housing, plentry of room to adjust and clear all the belts

that's the way this was . I guess its as good as it gets .should have just left it alone! hindsite ! but I moved it because the vac. line kept hitting the fan . might just put it back as it was . at least till I get a smaller dist .. have a stock one in my other mtr. with the petronix conversion . not to crazy about them . but it works .

Or he could simply move the wires over the opposite of rotation, one to advance the timing without having to remove the distributor.

    1. Moving the wires one position over means changing the distributor housing angle by 1/8 of a turn, or 45 degrees.
    2. Moving the distributor gear one position over means changing the distributor housing angle by 1/13 of a turn, or 28 degrees (BBB)--much finer adjustment. A SBB would be 1/14 of a turn--even finer adjustment.
    3. Playing pin-the-tail-on-the-distributor looks amateurish--although it can function just fine.

Pretty easy to do to try to get it into range than taking distributor out if its off that far.

How hard can it be to move the gear one tooth over???

About as hard as changing the distributor, like he was planning to do.

I put it back ,where it started . only place that really works with this dist., like I said , maybe 1/2 in. clearance on the vac. advance and fan . might see if I can put a longer spacer on fan . main thing is over heating .the timing will not correct the problem the radiator IS not big/efficient for the mtr,, any advice on the biggest/ best rad. is what I need. ive played with the timing all ready . it wont fix the prob. . have a 70 riv rad. , its twice the size of the one in the car . theres a reason they engineered it that way , right. im sure they didn't just want to waste copper .anyone else have a 64/65 w/bbb ? what rad. works for you . that's what I need now .but , enjoy any all input ! thnx

Call DeWitts Radiator and ask for John. Tell him you are a V8Buick board member. A while back I spoke with him about discount pricing for our members. Also make sure he installs the correct inlet/outlet sizes for your application.
