Is anyone intersted in getting a blue VIN door decal for there 70-72 car? I just bought a vintage Tyepwriter that has a type print the is very close to original. I also found some sources for a good decals with close color and print with nice rounded corners. The decal is paper with plastic overlay included so It should take the print. The typwriter was working but had a funny noise so and the belt fell off. I took it apart and manged to brake it worse. I wanted to find out if there are enough people out there to justify getting it fixed. Cost would be $21 each with your VIN and build date. 72 had the extra weight info as well so I would need that as well.

Herb, nest time you are over I will show you what I have.... Louie, about the only way to save yours is tape over it and paint around it. Tape might pull it off as well. They do not come off happily.

Here is the Deal on the font. I took a decal I salvaged from a junked Buick to a type expert and he said he had never seen a font exactly like it. He guessed it was made for GM. We did come up with one that was very close on the numbers. The pitch or spacing between the digits will be the same. The height of the letters is very close but mine will be a hair larger but unless next to original no one can tell. All the numbers will be extremely close especially the unique side open 4 which is the most important on a Buick. The 7 on the original had a slight bend to the leg but mine will be straight. You would have to have damn good eyes to notice any of this. The letters will be most different as most have legs. on 70-71 this is not that important except on the build plant for the H etc. I thought of shaving the legs(no jokes) with a Dremel but that would change the spacing a bit. The letters may be more important to a 72 owner as there is more letters where only one letter on 70-71. If you get one of these on your car and anyone criticises your font you have my permission to plant your foot firmly in their butt:TU: .

I also found a font with very close letters but this may invlove changing things in mid stream betwwen numbers which adds to the PIA factor. It may still be a possiblity but will have to run a test. Am I nuts or what????:Do No:

My '70 was built at the Kansas City plant, is it possible that mine did not come with a build date? only the vin?

Louie, They all should have VIN and date. Mistakes could have been made which has been seen many times on other things. Look real close in the upper right hand area. It should read something like .... 02/71
