Wow that is one NICE Riv! Im jealous now. Whitewalls, 60/40 split, vinyl top, right hand side mirror, buick road wheels, power windows, Antique gold paint, Sandalwood top, Riviera custom white and big tailpipes. Nice find.
Ken the pictures are up... Sometimes my hosting site glitches and loses connection....stupid cheap internet hosting...
1972 riv The passenger side mirror is the original.I have more pictures to send of my previous Riv, which was also a 1972 I had a 1971 trunk lid front and rear bumpers , cornering lights and grill with a swapped black interior. What I found interesting was that the wiring was already in the car for the cornering light male connectors. As well as the map light wiring! Also when I put the floor shifter in the hump in the floor for the Trans was stamped as to where to mount the brackets all that had to be done was drill the 1 1/2'' hole in the floor, for the detent cable. Buick thought of everything or close to it.I have come to find a 1973 GS Riv nearby it has a rear stabilizer bar so I assume it has the 3:42 posi rear?? Not sure though if it will fit the '71 or '72 the owner is really old and wants $500.00 for the car. Not running and full of north eastern body rot.
Re: 1972 riv It has a 3.23 if anything. The rear end will swap out with no problems, assuming the rear end is original.
1972 Riv I purcased my 1972 four years ago, the car was bought in Arizona .Later brought to Long Island, lucky for me! Now all great cars have a great story, so here is mine. My Riv was almost purchased by Bruce Willis!!! from the original owner . I was told by the guy I bought it from. He intended to make a custom all black personalized Riv?? Luckily that did not happen . That was a great sales pitch!,but the car sold itself and I feel it was the best $ 4,500.00 I will ever spend. - Dave
In 1973 and 1974 the GS package for Rivieras didn't include a 3.42:1 positraction. The GS for those years was a handling package. The positraction was part of the Stage 1 package.
1972 Riv Thank you again for posting the other pics. The Riv doing the burnout and the dark green one are the same car. I did that burn out in '97 in my senior year of high school and there is still a 2 1/2'' hole in the parking lot! I am glad to own such a fine car. Buicks do not get enough respect and or admiration by enthusiests. I also feel that a Buick is far better than any other American car company. Even though they are a division of General Motors, Buicks are the car amoung cars.
9 3/8 posi rear for 71 Riv Trevor there is a guy in upstate New York, Carmen @ J &C's Parts. I bought many parts from him for my previous Riv. He has a source of twelve or so Boattails in a barn. I know for a fact he has Posi rears for boattails. Last I spoke with him he had a re built unit. He is a Mechanic and is very good!! I believe he is asking $1.200.00 for the unit or you can get one removed and blasted for less. # 1 (716)693-4090 Give him a buzz I always was pleased with the service and parts . - Dave
1972 Riv Rob, I am not certain on that but I assume he would. From what I understand he has nearby 12 Boattails to pick from. # 1- (716) 693-4090 ask for Carmen.
