Bryan Put a light coat of Fiberglass Filler over that Metal before Mud! Pull that Spreader hard when putting fiberglass on ! And thin! Dont use to much hardener! It will be like sanding a red brick!
You will need to use duraglass or or any other fiberglass reinforced filler for the first coat to help with strength and longevity . Just a thin coat .
