The brace that is above the wheel well on the inside and reachable from the 1/4 window area ... I remember seeing this way back when I started the restoration ,14 years later as I'm installing the glass I see this out of sight out of mind brace and start touching it and see there is slight space between it and the 1/4 panel..... What to do with this space between it ? .. Is there suppose to be some sponge ,rubber material or butyl material ?????
Yes, at the factory there was a thick bead of sealer along the brace, which held the quarter panel more rigid, less likely to vibrate or oil can or, cave in if someone leaned on it. Typically when I replace a quarter I leave the sealer in the brace. I can't recall anytime when it came out or wasn't there but you should put something in it's place, possibly some of that expanding foam you can get at most home improvement stores or some body seam sealer that is applied with a caulking gun. Maybe someone else here will have a better idea.
the expanding foam sounds good but worried it might be a moisture trap long term ,I have some butyl ribbon left from windows that might be the ticket thanks Bill
