Brushable chassis paint?

Is there a good quality chassis paint that can be brushed or rolled on? I'm working in a garage and spraying isn't really an option. Trying to paint a frame.

You can brush POR15 pretty smooth,..but I'd suggest getting it ready and taking it to a body shop,..$300 would be fair

Por15 is the best bang for the buck. Brushes decent and hard as a rock after. Holds up extremely well.

POR15 is what I would recommend. You don't have to worry about brush bristle marks, cause it will flow out and self level.

I did all my front suspension and steering components with it and it looks great.

As I say, just slop it on and walk away, it will take care of itself for the most part.

Thanks guys, I've heard a few people say that you have to top coat por15 otherwise it changes color or loses its luster. Is that correct?

I can't see anything sticking to por after its dry,..it gets so hard i can't see there being any chemical adhesion,....

if you are concerned about it "looking good",..it needs to be either sandblasted or wire brushed really well then painted correctly

POR 15 will turn flat and off black after years in the sun/weather. I painted my mail box with POR 15 10 years ago as an experiment and it was glossy for maybe 6 years then slowly turned flat and slightly grayish. It still protects and had not failed as a preservative.
On my car parts I brush it on, wait 1 hour and top coat it with a UV resistant semi gloss clear spray bomb. Read the directions. You can scuff it later and top coat it, but it is very easy to do it as it sets up (my way). My method also takes the high gloss away so it is closer to chassis black.

More notes - POR 15 likes rough surfaces. Sandblasting is excellent, wire-brushed rusted surfaces, coarse sanding all work. It will not stick well to a smooth surface. POR 15 has to have something to grab onto. I always go over the material with lacquer thinner just before I paint to make sure there is no oil or grease. Yeah, that leaves a residue, but it doesn't seem to matter.

I'm going to take it to a local shop to have it sandblasted.

Do you use Por 15 spray bomb or something different like DupliColor or VHT?

I just went to Home Depot and found a satin clear with UV protection:

    The American Accents is satin.
Since you are getting it sandblasted you should coat the insides with something. This eastwood stuff has a wand to make it easy:

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Powder coat your frame, it's the best by far.

I use this sometimes. Really easy to use. You can get spray bomb or quarts or gallons. Goes on easy, really easy, and covers well.

On my first project I used Hammerite which was a huge mistake. Looked great but chipped very easily.

I brushed on POR 15 about 4 years ago when restoring my Skylark and it looks as good today. But I park it inside all the time and hardly ever drive it in bad weather.

    POR15 requires a painters mask.

    The fumes are deadly.

Geez. That's news to me. I've been using it for years! It might explain a few things though!

POR 15 requires gloves!!! It will NOT come off! And:
"ARE THE POR-15 VAPORS DANGEROUS TO MY HEALTH?
Yes. That's why you must always paint in a well-ventilated area and keep your nose away from the paint container. POR-15 is not dangerous if you follow our simple directions."
Don't know about a mask unless you are in a booth or spraying. I just open the garage doors.
    Here's the SDS: https://sds.por15.com/POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating/POR-15-Rust-Preventive-Coating-Gloss-Black-45001-45004-45005-45008-45032-45055-SDS.pdf
Also, it dries in the can. It can got hard in 6 mos, so use it up. I put saran wrap between the lid and the can so it doesn't glue the lid on.
