Buick engine in a '92 to '96 Roadmaster

I thought I'd ask here even though it would be a while (if ever!) before doing something like this.

I'd like to adapt a Buick engine to bolt in with all the sensors so the factory computer would still work, including injectors, etc.

Probably keep the cubic inches close enough to not need any adjustments.

I remember reading about someone putting a GN V6 in one, but I couldn't find much info on it. Ran in the 12s and got good mileage.

I saw one at the Nats a while back with a 455 and 2 fours, but don't really want to go that far.

Any links, thoughts, pictures, war stories, etc. would be great!

    Hi Alan,

    I like the idea.

Engine mounts may have to be custom, the chevy to Buick adatpter plate for the trans is easy.

If it were me and I wanted to put a Buick powerplant in a 92-96 Roadmaster I would do the following:

Find a 68-70 high compression 350, do a re-ring kit from Northern, with a TA212 cam, and the new single plane TA intake (should be out in a few months), do a multiport EFI as the TB EFI on those cars was not very good for power.

The new TA intake will have injector bosses that just need to be drilled out, and once it is multiport it will just have to flow the air so the fact that it is a single plane will still give good street manners. I would use a Megasquirt computer or you can use one of the aftermarket EFI systems that comes complete...

The only real issue with not using the stock EFI is that you would have to mess around to get the 4L60E trans to shift without all the computer functions working.

Overall I think it would be a lot of work for a little gain... You could do a carbed 350 or 455 but then that defeats the purpose of idea, and the trans would still need a controller.

I had to go look to make sure, but mine ('94) has port injection.

I wouldn't really be looking to gain anything other than it having an older Buick engine in it, something to confuse people at shows and at the track!

If it ran better that would be a bonus.

/Maybe just run some of those Dart Buick/Chevy hybrid heads and valve covers and then you could confuse people that way.

I want to do something really strange and swap a Buick engine into a Buick! :Dou:

    I love it!

Maybe the New TA S/P intake can be ordered with the injector holes machined in? Coupled with the new al. heads would be SWEET!!:TU:

Shouldn't be too big a deal to convert to TBI. Port FI would get more involved of course.

Would be better to start with '93 and older.

Being that the frames have been similar for decades, wouldn't Buick 350 frame mounts from the late 70's big cars work?

a tbi car would work fine with a the 350 with just retuning it and mounting it on the buick. you can use mounts from a 80s b or g body. the frames didnt change. would be actually a pretty simple swap in a tbi car. now a lt1 car you might as well build your own mpfi set up run aftermarket computer and trans control.
